The next day, Sequoia awoke to the sound of knocking on her door. She shifted to sit up on the bed after telling the person knocking that they could come in. She noticed that the pain she had felt in her side wasn't as bad as it was due to the medication that she was taking. She also noticed that her head didn't hurt, and she wasn't having any more vertigo symptoms. Last night, Sequoia had been lost in her thoughts, even after Anna came and served her dinner.
She had also been given another pain pill with her meal, which she was quite happy to receive being that her head was splitting from all the thinking she had been doing. Even as she turned to the now opening bedroom door, her brain was thinking about what Devlin had said on the phone the night before. It also replayed the conversation that she had with Draven where he told her that both of them loved her and wanted to gain her trust and her heart.
"Good morning, Miss Sequoia." Anna said as she wheeled in her cart and closed the door behind her. She slowly rolled the trolley over to the bed. On top of the cart was a covered porcelain bowl, a glass of juice and a teacup with a tea bag on the saucer. A container of sugar and creamer along with a small hot water kettle and Sequoia's morning medication, sat beside it.
"Good morning, Anna," Sequoia said to the girl with a small smile. Sequoia noticed that today, Anna was dressed in a beautiful light pink dress, she wore a white striped hair band which pulled her long blonde hair back to cascade down her back. She looked very pretty right down to the Mary Janes she wore on her feet.
"The chef prepared you a bowl of cream of wheat, and this is a glass of chilled apple juice and a cup of tea. The tea bag is Earl Grey. I can always get you something else if you prefer. We have a wide variety of teas to choose from down in the kitchen." Anna said as she began to set up all of the contents on her trolley onto the breakfast tray that she had laid across Sequoia's lap.
"No, It's ok. Earl Grey is fine." Sequoia told Anna.
Anna was staring at everything she laid out but there was thoughtful expression on her face. And then her face lit up.
"I almost forgot. I also have a gift from the Betas for you." Anna told Sequoia as she proceeded to leaned down and pulled out a medium sized rectangular box from underneath the skirt covering the trolley and handed it to her.
"Wh... what is it?" Sequoia said staring at the box that was wrapped with a beautiful red bow on top that she now held in her hands with curious eyes.
"I haven't a clue. The Betas handed it to me as I was coming up here with your breakfast before they left. They told me to give it to you. Looks pretty with that red bow on it. Anyway, do enjoy your breakfast, I will be back later to collect your dirty dishes."
"Oh...ok. Uhm...thank you Anna." Sequoia said as she watched the young girl leave the room. The moment she was alone, Sequoia's full attention was not on her meal before her but on the red bowed package she held in her hands.
Sequoia stared at the perfectly wrapped box with curious eyes. She slowly set it on the edge of the breakfast tray and began tugging at the bow. Once it was removed, she carefully lifted the lid that covered it. With the lid off, Sequoia could clearly see what was hidden in the box and she couldn't help but gasp in surprise.
Inside the box was a beautiful hand carved wooden music box. Sequoia carefully lifted the music box from the box and held it in her hand in amazement. She could tell that the music box was made from solid walnut and had gold inlay trimming around the lid. By the look of it the music box was also extremely expensive. She lifted the lid of the music box and was almost brought to tears when she saw the hand painted landscape portrait inside the lid.
It was a beautiful winter scene of two wolves that were standing at the edge of a snow-covered hilltop. Sequoia stared at the two wolves and could immediately see that they were identical. Sequoia found herself picturing their eyes being Gold and Blue even though in the mural it was hard to see. The pair of wolves' heads were turned as if to stare right at her.
