Chapter 1:

They come to see the fire burning
In your heart
They want to witness this love from start

They hear you when you cry
This love is far and wide
When you smile the stars align
Flower of the universe
And child of mine

When you sleep softly the angels come
Like a diamonds like my love
They want to know it's true
There's someone in the world
Lovely as you

They hear you when you cry
This love is far and wide
When you smile the stars align
Flowers of the universe
And child of mine

Her name is Phoenix Hayes
Her Faction of origin is Candor.

Her story begins on a cool day. She was waiting in one of five very long lines in front of their school buildings. There was hers: Candor the truthful , those who seek truth in favor of lies. There was also four other factions, Abnegation the selfless, Amity the kind, Erudite the intelligent, and Dauntless the brave. Ever since Phoenix was little she dreamed of becoming one of the Dauntless. She used to watch in awe of there bravery and over appearances. Today was the day she would found out if her dream will come true.

She stood in line next to her older twin brother, Peter Hayes. He was a jerkface. Plain and simple. She watched as he picked on an Abnegation boy asking him where all the food was going. She had cleared her throat at her brother. She was a girl of few words but when she did talk it was usually to defend people that Peter would pick on. "Peter." She said , he was still going at it as she saw a thin faced blonde Abnegation girl try to step up to her brother, another Abnegation, presumably her brother pulled her back. "Peter Hayes!" Phoenix said fuming when her brother pushed the boy. Her dark brown eyes cutting into his when he finally looked at her. " What do you want runt?" He asked Phoenix. She shoved him. And he stumbled backwards, almost tripping. "Leave them alone. Rumors are lies."

He looked down at Phoenix anger in his own eyes. "You would know all about lies wouldn't you, Phoenix?" She galred at him. "We'll settle this at home." She hissed. He kept doing little things to try and rile her up again but she just ignored hi and smiled at the Abnegation boy. When her name was called her heart started to race and her palms clammed up. Her mouth was dry and she fisgeted with the zipper of her black and white jacket.

"Hayes , Phoenix." An Abnegation women called in a passive tone. Their faction were a bunch of push overs, they were trained to just chill and do what other people told them to do because they weren't supposed to think of themselves.

Phoenix slowly walked into the room the women led her too. It was plain with mirrored walls. The only thing that made the room interesting were the dentist's chair that was in the center of the room and the computer that was to the right of the chair.

The woman was older with graying brown hair that was in a simple bun at the back of her head. She had big brown eyes which seemed familiar somehow, she wore a simple modest crew neck dress with long sleeves. When she turned her back to Addy , she barely caught the very tip of a tattoo, suggesting she was a former Dauntless member. "My name is Natalie Prior, I'll be in charge of your aptitude test." she said in a calming voice Phoenix nodded as she sat in the chair. She handed Phoenix a small glass with a blue liquid in it. The liquid was the aptitude serum. "Here it goes."Phoenix thought as she downed it wincing when it hit the back of her throat.

She open her eyes to find she was in the same room. The only difference in this one was the lack of a computer to her right. She walk around the room looking at herself in the mirrors. Which projected infinitely into themselves. She was an average looking girl, thin with brown eyes an angular face, freckles covering the bridge of her thin nose. Her long curly dark brown hair fell just past her shoulders. She normally keep it up with a pen like she had today, her clothes were black and white. Black leggings a white T-shirt and her old beaten Converse. She looked like normal and then her reflection blinks. It was an action so small if she had blinked or looked away, she would have missed it. She looked at her squinting as she says, "Choose."when she speaks it isn't Phoenix's voice, this was the voice of an older woman, it was cold and sharp. She looked around, "Choose what?" Phoenix asked. "Choose." she pointed to a table. The table held a knife, cheese, and meat. She was indecisive, she could choose a knife but for what? Or the meat. But she would not touching raw, probably contaminated, meat. She guess she took too long because the voice that came from her reflection said, "Time's up." the table vanishes and she hears a low growl followed by a vicious bark. She turns around and saw a mangy, rabid dog. 'I have to stay calm.' She thought.

Humans release chemical pheromones when we're scared, when faced with a predator the predator can literally smell fear. The pheromone acts as a trigger for the predator to attack. She closed her eyes and got level with the dog. Breathing slowly as she did so to keep my heart rate steady.

What happens next is a miracle. The dog that was only seconds ago planning on eating her for lunch was now a cute pup. She reached out and patted his head calling him a cute pud pud. "Puppy!" She heard a little girl yell. The cute pup turned into the beast and chased after the girl. Without thinking Phoenix took off sprinting towards the girl. She grabbed her and used my body as a shield. She was waiting to feel the pain she expected from the dog's jaws. It never came and she stood up. Dusting myself off. She was on a bus. There was a man at the back, he was frantically asking if anyone knew the man in the picture. He came up to Phoenix and asked if she knew him. He was dressed in factionless clothes and wreaked of alcohol and grunge. "Have you seen this man?" She shook her head. "Have you seen him before!? Please you could save my life!" Her face heated up. "She said no." he kept on until her fists were clenched and her face was an angry shade of red. "I said NO!" She yelled.

She bolted upright in the chair. Sweat dripping off my chin. Taking a deep greedy breath. Her breathing was hard almost spastic. "You have to go." She looked at Natalie. Her face was etched in concern, "What? Why?What was my score?" Phoenix asked she took a deep breath trying to stay calm. "Dauntless," She sighed before she finished. "And abnegation and Erudite." Phoenix shook my head. "That's impossible the test is supposed-" "the test is wrong!" she snapped. "I don't understand." Phoenix said gripping her sides. "They call it Divergent its very dangerous, you have to go right now. I'll manually enter you in as Candor, you can't tell anyone about this do you understand?" Natalie looked shaken. "Yes ma'am." She said as Phoenix got up to leave. She decided to get off a stop early and walk home. She liked how busy her sector was, like a hive of black and white bees, all working in unison. All telling each others secrets. She wasn't going to choose Candor. They are too transparent for her. The are not her faction. As she neared my house she took a moment to take in the sunlight and the sky. The way the light refracted off of the glass windows, the warmth and natural light. Those were the only things she was going to miss, her father wasn't a priority, he only cared about Peter, because Peter 'never' lied. Her mother was always gone at her job as Jack Chang's personal secretary. She only saw her in comings and goings and she'd ignore all of them. She only cared about herself.

She stayed in my room for most of the night. She sat reading an old book to pass the time. Instead of knocking Peter came in and flopped onto her bed. He and Phoenix get along for the most part. Its when he picks on the proverbial little guy. "Hey Pete." She say as she put my book down. "Are you ready for the ceremony?" He asked. "Honestly, I'm nervous, what was your score?" She asked him. "Dauntless." She nodded. "I scored Dauntless too." His head perked up, "No way.I expected you to get Erudite!" He said looking at her to see if she was joking.

"You're serious." He said in disbelief. She nodded "As a heart attack." She said smiling. "I've heard stories about Dauntless, are you sure you'll be okay?" He asked concerned. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Just gotta get into better shape." Peter laughed, She was pretending to not be able to touch my toes. Truth was she was her brother's sparing partner so she was in good shape. He practices fighting every day at 10:30 am.
