Amanda's POV

I pull out my phone to see if Tara sent me a text. Once I see that she didn't I write:

AMANDA: Can't wait to see you tonight!

I'm about to put my phone back into my pocket when it suddenly chimes a new text in.

TARA: :) Leo's there too, right? I want to give you guys something!

AMANDA: Tara, you didn't have to! Besides, our birthday is tomorrow not today! :0)

TARA: No but seriously! It's awesome! You'll love it!

I write back that she doesn't have to really bring us anything, but some part of me wants to know what it is.

I glance over my shoulder to find Leo peering down on my. I didn't even hear him come downstairs! He really has the skills of a ninja doesn't he? I'm guessing that he saw me texting Tara because he whips out his phone, probably to see if he got any texts.

"How was David's meet with Angelina? Sorry again for missing it by the way." he asks curiously after putting his phone away.

"It was pretty short," I explain, "Grace was pretty quiet which is not usual for her though. Angelina didn't explain much either, which is normal for her."

"Okay, so I didn't miss much then?"

"No, not really. Angelina just mentioned that Grace is missing some of her self-confidence."

"Well, you know that Willow Falls is kind of relying on Grace to keep their um... what's the word. Oh yes, uniqueness. Is that even a word? Anyways, Grace is the one who inherited Angelina's powers for a reason."

I nod slowly, letting the words sink in. I'm pretty sure he's right though. Without Grace at this point, Willow Falls won't have that same unique factor that makes this place so special.

"Come. We can go meet Tara's family outside now. They're coming at any minute now I'm sure." I say, already making my way to the door. Leo follows silently.

Outside, it's still bright out and I think that I still am able to see a little part of the moon on the horizon. The next thing I see is Tara's car coming down the street. I wave them over.

Leo whispers, "My parents are coming in about an hour."

"Okay," I reply. I'm so used to this happening the day before our birthday, it's almost like we practice these days all the time.

Tara climbs out and waves us hello. I run up to her and notice a small wrapped up box in her hands. Following Tara is her mother, holding a white carton box.

"It's a few pastries I picked up for your parents. Like a dessert." Mrs. Brennan tells me, when she sees me looking over.

"Here. Let me hold that for you." I offer her, taking the pastry box out of her hands. Tara and I start to skip back up the stairs to join Leo, when I turn to Tara and say to her, "I think my parents are busy talking on phone right now, but I can ask them if they—."

I get cut off because a second later, I find myself face flat on the ground.

A/N: hey guys! I'm so sorry that this chapter is late! I promise now though, that I'm out of my writing slump and that more chapters will be out soon! Hope you like that cliffhanger by the way!

Anyways, I've noticed that there are many of you that are reading this fanfiction out there and I wanted to point out that I'm currently writing a novel called Alteration that also needs some readers and attention from you guys! So go check that out if you haven't already! I'd like to remind you Alteration readers that updates only come out on Fridays at 6pm Eastern! And I'm not planning on changing that schedule anytime soon!
