2022 Christmas Special - A Little Too Much - Part 1

Author's Note: I am cutting this in half again, as I know some people struggle with lengthy chapters. Let me know what you guys think. Do you prefer I cut them? Or should I just keep them long?

Also I want to apologize for updating this so late. I meant to have this published by Boxing Day. On a side note. Who has listened to Halazia? I still can't believe it is real. Everything about it was just so beautiful and stunning.

"Okay, the schedule for today is a Christmas live," Manager Ho told the Ateez members. He paused and skimmed over his notes once more. "You are going to put together and decorate the Christmas tree, before sitting down to talk about how far you come this year and your hopes and plans for the new year. There is a table there with some food and soda. You know what to do."

The eight members all nodded before going to prepare for the live. It wasn't until evening, so the members had plenty of time to get ready. They all showered and picked out their festive pajamas. One of the stylist noonas then bought in a box of Christmas accessories to let them fight over. There was a fight over a pair of reindeer horns, until San discovered a musical hat that danced. He obligingly gave it to Wooyoung, which resulted in a protesting Mingi. It got confiscated moments later, because Wooyoung wouldn't stop pressing the button and driving everyone insane. Jongho wouldn't wear a hat at all, and had to be coaxed into it by the name of Atiny.

Hongjoong was exhausted and his head was hurting him. The live wasn't even ready to start yet, and already he wanted nothing more than to go to bed. He left the seven causes of his headache and went to see how the staff preparation was going. The dismantled tree lay waiting in a big red box, and a table was placed to the side with all the food and drinks prepared. Beside the tree box was a smaller box, containing all the ornaments. Hongjoong recognized them as the ones they had made earlier that week in their last live.

He chatted with the staff for a good while, asking them questions about how they would spend their holidays, and giving a hand in helping to set up,  before reluctantly going back to check on his members. Yunho and San had decided to film a Christmas dance reel together. The others were all sitting around on their phones, while Yeosang was getting his makeup touched up. Wooyoung was nowhere to be seen. Hongjoong wasn't that worried or surprised. He had probably gone to sulk somewhere in the hopes, Seonghwa would feel sorry and give him the hat back. Seonghwa clearly no intention of doing so, as he proudly watched the dancing duo. He swayed from side to side in time with the music, a smile on his face, as he clapped in tiny quiet movements.

Hongjoong couldn't help but smile fondly at the group before him. It had been a good year, despite being very busy. There had been many mishaps, but that was expected in their line of work. Hongjoong glanced up as a staff entered the room and shyly gestured for his attention. Understanding, Hongjoong turned to his members.

"Alright, guys. We are starting the live now."

Everyone gathered their stuff and followed him back to the room where everything was set up. As they all settled themselves before the camera, Hongjoong did a mental headcount. He frowned, before counting them again to double check.

"San, where is Wooyoung?"

San shrugged. "I don't know."

"Yeosang?" Hongjoong asked, turning to see if he would be of more help.

Yeosang flinched, his eyes shifting in a guilty manner. "I'll go get him, hyung."

He rose to his feet, but in the same moment, Wooyoung came in through the door. Wooyoung grinned as he saw all the members were gathered and waiting for him. Something about his appearance, sent alarm bells ringing through Hongjoong's head. The younger man was completely unsteady on his feet, almost staggering as he walked over to join them. As he got closer, he tripped on his feet and fell forward with a cackling laugh.
