"You deserve everything and everyone, you have the opportunity to be worthy of them,"

.:Prologue:.

Far up above Canada, Nunavut, there was a lab. And in it, there was an odd and mysterious creature- one whose fur shone like the night sky. One whose horn glittered with magical energy. A unicorn. The scientists found her body barely alive near the rocky spires of the oceans, washed up into the rocks from the arctic ocean, which was of course, quite the shock.

So Doctor. S. Martin, the talented scientist who had found her, worked day and night on keeping the unicorn alive, terrified of losing this amazing creature- which turned out to be the last of her kind, after searching for days to see if there were other sightings of such a thing, of course. Soon, Doctor. S. Martin found out the reason for her almost certain death.

Her herd. The unicorn's herd had died- and the unicorns were, strangely enough, carnivores, despite the beautiful image of elegant, swift horses moving through a field of flowers and grazing upon the dark forest grass. However, this young unicorn wasn't able to feed herself, so she threw herself into the ocean meaning to die, so she wouldn't have to suffer through starvation.

Doctor. S. Martin named her Basilah, a name meaning "brave"- which quickly changed to a name meaning a beautiful, nice smelling plant, or Basil.

And as Doctor. S. Martin worked in his lab, putting the unicorn body together with robotic parts and trying to make it function, the others made a miniature herd that Basil would lead. Not much time passed, and Basil was standing. The scientist called Doctor. S. Martin raised her. He made her things, fed her, played with her, until she was old enough to lead the herd.

The other scientists, however, had other plans. They saw her practicing her magic, realizing with a slight grin creasing on each of their faces, this wasn't a creature they should let go, persey- they could use her magic, for war, for power. As Sebastian Martin left for home- these scientists- these terrible people- attempted to weaponize Basil, trying to possibly train her to fight, they added wings, and referred to her as an "it".

Basil hated this.

So she stopped it.

In the centre of the Northern Experimental Lab (NEL), the very last true unicorn stood in a pool of blood.

.:Chapter One:.

It was a year after the incident- or was it two? Gwen didn't know, exactly. She was only seven- and it had happened when she was five or six- so yes- one or two years.

Her father, Sebastian Martin, was a scientist, but after the incident, he fell into a deep depression after he lost his beloved Basil, along with Gwen's mother, Elda Gloria, who died when Gwen was only three.

Her father loved Elda so much, and he told Gwen at the funeral, when she was three, that it felt like a hundred bullets shooting his heart all at once.

But Gwen didn't remember that.

Gwen was taking care of her father, going to the store to get his medicine, and doing extra jobs for her neighbors in Grise Fiord to get a little extra money.

Everyone thought she was at least ten- maybe even twelve and just small for her age- but no. Gwen was only seven years old, despite her age, she was certainly strong enough to win a fight, maybe even survive a blizzard, if needed.

And Gwen loved the outdoors. She loved running through fields of frost and rolling down hills and climbing any trees she could find. And Sebastian- he was so proud of her. He loved her more than anything in the world.
