Anirudh's POV:-

I ran as fast as my limbs would take me.

For the first time in years, I cursed myself for being weak, for subjecting myself to such pathetic weakness. If something happened to Bondita, it would all be because of me. Because of my flaw in judgement.

I knew Merwick had been getting way too friendly with the vampires of the eastern bayou.

I should've known. No human's desire to become a functional vampire has been fulfilled till date...not without Original blood.

He'd be a ripper by now, highly dangerous, especially to a werewolf.

Pulling myself out of these thoughts, I tried to navigate my way through the thick metallic stench. Finding myself become overwhelmed with sensory overload, I focused on Bondita.

Her breath.

Her heartbeat.

Then I saw her.

I saw the pale complexion she now wore, as Merwick drew closer.

I didn't even realise when my reflexes took me to him before he could hurt her, and I put him down so that a blood-leech like him could never touch my beloved, never produce more of his wretched ripper kind.

Then, turning my attention to Bondita, I pulled away the stray strands of hair from her eyes. I looked into them, narrowing my own in concern.

"How are you feeling?" I asked her while caressing her right cheek.

She tried to say something, but a tear escaped her eye before the words formed.

My own eyes moistened with unbidden feeling, as if to convey "I understand."

"I'm okay, Anirudh. I'm more than okay...because I'm finally back."

Before she could say anything else, I embraced her, holding her tightly.

I cried, for my happiness knew no bounds.

I cried in joy, in love...and in hope.

Bondita's POV:-

As soon as I let him know that I was back, that his Bondita was back, his eyes crinkled in the most natural way. Remembering his demeanour during our first meeting after my reincarnation, he had been aloof, cold and held a certain outward charm.

But the Anirudh I knew, the Anirudh I could see in front of my eyes right now—was a kind, compassionate man. His honesty his charm, his determination his spell.

He was my Rakshak Babu, and I was his.

He was my love, and I was his light.

Together, we would change the world for the better.

Tark se hi fark padega.

Flashback~

"Pati Babu, do you remember Mary Edward, my friend from Siliguri?"

"Hmm...I do. Isn't she the one who taught you a few jungle survival skills against some common predatory species?"

"Yes! She's the one. So, she called me yesterday and invited us to her annual charity event in London, especially since we've been so involved in the Werewolf Rights' Awareness Campaign. What do you say, should we go?

"Of course we should. No better way to spread our cause further, is there?"

"Then I'll tell her about your confirmation."

"Hmm...you do that. I'll get my paperwork done until then."

As Anirudh went back to his date-with-a-hundred-office-files, a mischievous idea stirred up in Bondita's mind.

Her husband, forever the hardworking workaholic, had been neglecting her sweet ways too much these days. Working till 10 p.m. was fine, but the wife certainly missed the late-night-chats with her husband at 11.

And Bondita, being a cuddler, craved his affection.

'Agar ghee seedhi ungli se naa nikle, toh ungli tedhi kar leni chahiye...' she thought as a smirk tugged at the corners of her lips.

Then off she went to execute her plan.

Dressing up in one of her favourite silk sarees, she admired her form in front of the mirror.

The silky white cloth fit her perfectly, hugging her body at just the right places. It was further embroidered with silver threads woven in intricate patterns of ancient runes, giving her a royal aura.

Her long locks of ebony hung in loose curls, enhancing her femininity and reinforcing her natural beauty. For a final touch, Bondita wore some kajal and rubbed some pink into her lips.

She looked absolutely breathtaking.

Her vixen yet innocent eyes were enough to bewitch anyone tonight.

However, she aimed for only one.

Her dearest Pati Babu.

Bondita walked into Anirudh's study with careful, soft steps.

Apparently, she wanted to take him by surprise.

Both of them had been so busy for the past few months that they hadn't even embraced each other for more than a couple of minutes.

Bondita wished to change that today.

"Pati Babu, you told me the story of the Moon Princess once, didn't you?"

"Yes, I did." Anirudh said, not even lifting his eyes.

"Could you describe her again, please?" Bondita said with a honeyed tinge in her voice, almost deliberate.

"Of course. The Moon Princess, as the name suggests, was born of a race of beauty. With skin like milk infused with honey, soft as pearls and petals, eyes like obsidian gems carved of the eternal abyss, and hair like silken strands of earthen essence, she was considered the epitome of—"

Before Anirudh could complete his sentence, his eyes became his fatal flaw, turning up to look at the woman one would think the Moon-Princess-incarnate.

He took in the magnificent sight in front of him with careful concentration.

He tried to look away, but his gaze flickered back and forth until it settled on Bondita's eyes, which charmed him into a dreamy daze.

After a few minutes had passed, he got himself out of his stupor, and said after composing himself, "Why must you test me, Bondita. Hasn't my care for you been enough proof of my love—"

"I don't test you, Anirudh." Bondita said, and her eyes didn't betray her words nor did her truth budge.

"I. Simply. Want. You." She pulled him close by the collar, as she looked straight into his eyes.

"I see..." Anirudh was clearly having a difficult time with Bondita's forwardness, yet he didn't dislike it.

His fingers fidgeted nervously, before Bondita took one of his digits into her mouth.

Her tongue caressed Anirudh's finger sensually, making him aware of nerve endings he didn't know he had.

She then pulled away, inviting him to make the next move.

"Will you not lead?" He asked, as some nervousness still lingered in his mind.

"I will. But a dance without a partner is as painful as it is beautiful."

That night was their last night of pleasure, and of peace.

Until the next life.
