There's something different about you that you didn't fully grasp as a child (and still don't). Looking above anyone's face will reveal seemingly random numbers along with their name.

Realizing that these things weren't visible to anyone else, in second grade you told your friend about this "superpower". They were excited. But... when that friend matured a little, you're sure that they came to the conclusion you guys were just roleplaying. If only that were true. Every time you look in the mirror, you see your own human face. Your e/c eyes staring back with everything how it's supposed to be. Everything except your name in scarlet floating letters.

Before learning to give up and live with this you felt like you were going crazy. Hallucinations, right? You must be deluded. But how are you supposed to believe that when no matter how many days pass, no matter how many times you blink or focus, it doesn't disappear in favor of mocking your very sanity. If someone's face is completely out of view the names and numbers will not appear. That's one of the only things you've been able to figure out about your inexplicable vision. Just ignore this aspect of your life and you are the relatively average, friendless, quiet 17 year old boy.

On some rare occasions you disregard your sworn ignorance of your strange power. Now is one of those anomylies. Sitting two seats beside you is Light Yagami. You've talked to him a few times but you're no more than acquaintances. However he's occupied your thoughts ever since you saw him in the morning of school today. You've made excuses to the teacher multiple times so you'd be able to walk across the classroom and glance at his face, yet to your growing distress nothing changed. "Light Yagami" was floating above his head... and nothing else. The jumble of numbers is gone.
