To begin with in case there are any new comers to the *ahem* genre. First to begin with is their second genders:

On the top is alphas.
Alphas a generally dominant, can omit pheromones and can claim a second gender as a mate. They are also usually very controlling (in a way) and try to support by instinct.
The middle are Betas, usually the majority of the population, they can't omit or sense any pheromones and are the average middle child basically.
And at the bottom, Omegas are usually more vulnerable, the can emit pheromones and tend to be more peacemakers then anything (like the good disney moms that always get killed off). By instinct the and due to their biology they act a bit motherly and sensitive.
Now Second thing to explain is pheromones. Pheromones are what stes the genders apart. Alphas are attracted to omega pheromones and vise versa, but these two genders can use them differently. Alphas can use them to oppress, attract, or even cause omegas to go into heat with their pheromones. While omegas usually attract, set off what they feel, and also attract alphas with their pheromones. Betas don't omit or attract any gender with pheromones.
And here were anatomy get weird.

This image got most of the information and made the most sense to me on where the glands are and how they work and what for.
But basically you find your 'mate' or partner with the pheromones they omit, and to 'Claim' someone as your mate (basically its the equivalent to marriage but with a bite mark) you but the glands on the back of any genders gland.
That then ties into the rest on the anatomy. And yes there's a difference between the second genders. But because this is a bxb story we'll focus on the male anatomy with these genders.

This is basically the difference between all of the (male) genders on the omegaverse spectrum. (ik i'm weird but your here for a reason lmao)
And essentially a male omega can give birth to a baby.
Finally we'll talk about their mating seasons. depending on the AU and author they can happen as frequently as they want. Personally I'll say once a year.
But Alphas go into ruts and Omegas go into heats. Their behaviors amplify to say the least. Alphas become more dominant, want to support, provide and breed essentially while an Omega want to submit, be breed, and be claimed as a mate. Their pheromones basically go everywhere like too much perfume during this time.
During heats omegas will make a nest, a nest is essentially a bunch of comfortable materially (blankets, pillows blankets, etc. depending on what time period your reading) but the usually go with scents their comforted by and will attack if threatened by those who go near their nest the do not want or uncomfortable by, and omegas usually will have to give permission for someone to go near their nest.
~Now onto what I'll have in my fanfic (lmoa yeah this ain't over yet T-T)~
Basically I'll have the standard second genders that I had previously described and the male second gender anatomy. With this I'll keep the similar instinctual behaviors of said second genders along with ruts and heats which will come around once a year, but can also be saited by medication.
I'd like to keep the medication similar to birth control. It can be taken in the same various forms, for the most part work well depending on the person and can still be harmful if taken for over 20 years. It's not going to kill you but will harm the hormones and ovaries essentially if taken routinely for per say 15-20 years. But not as many drawbacks as we have with birth control.
And there will be courting, (basically flirting and being gifted and taken on dates to decide if you want to be with that person but sweeter like in the 50's) and you can have multiple 'mates' so this will be polyamorous because im a multi shipper and idc i love them all.
And bc its a yaoi, with ya know smut their aged up so Damien is 18, the same age as Darling (the male omega of the story).
