Throughout the flight I'm stuck between two Yoruba women gossiping about someone else's marital life or something like that.
I have this strong urge to ask one of them to exchange seats with me so I won't have to be inbetween them, and that way they can converse better, but just decide to respect myself and keep shut, besides, it's just for a few hours.God, why can't I ever get the seat by the window, I always have this badluck....
I just spend the rest of the flight listening to podcasts while snacking up Aya (tiger nuts) with my water.
When the plane eventually lands... I'm more than relieved, though I was feeling super excited and a bit overwhelmed.
like OMG, we're in Maiduguri already...!
As soon as I descended the plane and was in the midst of the crowd again walking into the Airport for another check up section, I began to dial Hauwa's number, hoping she and Hanifa were here already as they were the ones picking me up from the Airport, and I barely knew anyone or even anything here so I'll just be stranded if they weren't.
"You've arrived?" Hauwa answered on the third ring, sounding really excited.
"Yep, are you guys at the Airport?"
"Yah, well me, but...."
"Okay, I'll call you back when I'm done with checking point wahala."
I say too excited and in a rush to even let her finish as I just wanted to get this all over with."Okay." She just says.
I feel a rush of excitement kick in.
As soon as I'm done with checking point business and am now at the Arrivals hall, I'm just about to call her again when she called."Na hango ki (I've sighted you), you're wearing a light brown Abaya with jeans koh." She says.
"It's cream not light brown ." I can't help but correct and I could picture her rolling her eyes.
It probably looked light brown from afar.I was wearing this cream Abaya with flower patterns all over, the Abaya had a full length slit in front so I put on a black tee and black jeans underneath together with a matching vintage scarf which was wrapped around my head in a turban style. Then put on white sneakers along with my cute tiny bagpack.
"Whatever, I'm standing a few feet from the hall's exit, just bring your ass over here." She says.
We both hung up as I found my way in the midst of the crowd to the exit.
"Hauwaaa!"
"Zubieee!"
We both squeal as soon as we sight each other, as if we weren't just talking to each other right now.
As we jump onto each other, squealing crazily and squishing each other tightly while jumping up and down like two kids."OMG OMG!!"
We pull away from the hug to take a proper look at each other.
"Hmm, someone looks fresh."
"You too... the glow though."
She's wearing this black long sleeve maxi dress that fits her fair slender figure perfectly along with a plain white turban.
"Wait where's Hanifa?" I then ask looking around a bit when there's no sign of the second crazy one.
"She couldn't come, wai she's tired, you know she came by morning flight today." Hauwa says.
