I never really thought of how things could change. Change is supposed to be a good thing. So why did it make me feel so empty? It took me a while to realize that change is a transition to something great. And although that transition sucks, I'm glad that it happened. Otherwise, my life wouldn't be as great as it is today. Let's start from the beginning.

I held a hand over my mouth to suppress my fit of giggles. "Have you seen Diana?" Jack asks my mother. I shrink farther into the massive closet, darkness consuming my figure. "No." she says. I can hear Jack humph in disappointment and hear footsteps clamber up the steps. "Diana!" he calls.

I can hear him enter the room and remain perfectly silent. "I know you're in here, I can hear you breathing." I hold my breath, in hopes that Jack would go look somewhere else. Instead, the door swings open and light spills into the closet revealing me. "Found you!" he cries. His brown eyes twinkle as he smiles victoriously. I squeal trying to run past him as he chases after me. I run as fast as my little legs can carry me rushing to my room but Jack catches me by the wrist. "Tag!" he shouts and runs off in the other direction.

I huff, but the smile remains on my face as I dash after him. "Jack, Diana! Ice cream!" I hear my mother's voice call. We both stop short and exchange glances. "I'll beat you downstairs!" I say running off. "No fair, you have a headstart!" I don't stop rushing down the stairs and into the kitchen with Jack close behind.

"Mint chocolate chip!" I tell my mom as soon as I see her reach into the freezer. "NO! Vanilla bean is better!" Jack says coming in second. "How about this, you both try each other's ice cream." my mother suggests. I wrinkle my nose at the vanilla bean ice cream. "But I want mint chocolate chip." I say sadly. She serves us the bowls as I reluctantly take a bite of the vanilla bean ice cream. My face contorts as I swallow. "Switch?" I ask Jack.

He nods as we slide our bowls to each other and eat our ice cream. "Wanna play on the swing?" Jack asks. I nod encouragingly leaving the ice cream as we race outside to my backyard where our tire swing hung on the large oak tree. "Who pushes who?"

"Rock, paper, scissors!" Jack cries as I hold out my fist signaling rock. He gets paper. "You push me!" I say triumphantly. "NO! Paper beats rock." I shake my head vigorously. "No! Rock goes on top of paper!" We continue to argue about the game until my dad comes home.

"It's dark. You should come inside!" he suggests. We both race inside up to my room as I pull his sleeping bag from under my bed. "Hey Diana?" Jack says as he stares out my window. "Yeah?"

"We're going to be best friends forever right?"

"Of course we are."

"Pinky promise?" He holds out his pinky as I take it. "Pinky promise." This was a memory I still treasure to this very day. I was five years old my sixth birthday coming up. It was also ten years ago. I should have known that things weren't going to be the same. Best friends forever, huh? What a lie.

MUST READ! Chapters will be longer. Sorry if this is bad. Hi. So this is my first story on Wattpad. I'm not one to really post A/N. No offense to writers that do that. That's just something I don't do. I know that when it says first story you immediately think it's bad. That does it for this chapter. I just wanted to show what it was like when they were children and their relationship. I know it was short, the ones to follow will be longer. See you next chapter!
