Okay, so two updates in one day! Wooh! I didn't think I'd have this much time on my hands. Summer is nearing and then I'm done with school!
"You have to tell us EVERYTHING!" Ellie said as she rolled out her sleeping bag next to my bed and collapsed on it excitedly. A smile was plastered on her face as she leaned forward desperate to here my reply.
"Oh I'm eager to hear this." Charlotte said rolling out her own black sleeping bag in front of my bed. But instead of sitting on it she dumped her bag on top and sat on the edge of my bed.
"There's nothing going on between me and Jack!" I told them. Ellie raised an eyebrow, biting her lip to keep herself from smiling. "Uh huh. Then what do you call that little scene with him earlier!" she pointed out victoriously, grinning from ear to ear.
"He was helping me get our history project on top of the bookshelf!" I pointed to it. Charlotte gave me an evil smirk. "A history project, huh? And your his math tutor! I bet you wanted to help out in his other subjects too? Perhaps, chemistry." She drawled which ended up with me smacking her arm and Charlotte and Ellie in a fit of laughter.
"And what about you, little miss I'm-So-Dark-And-No-One-Would-Come-Near-Me-If-They-Valued-Their-Lives? Hmm? You seem very interested in this topic whereas you usually pick your nails out of boredom when it comes to love life. Is someone hoping to seek advice to use on her own little dates?" I swear if my phone weren't charging, I would have snapped a picture.
Charlotte was beet red, leaving both of us slack-jawed. "No." I whispered. "Shut up!" Ellie said, cheering and clapping her hands together. "You have to tell me EVERYTHING. Who is he?" Ellie asked excitedly.
"He has brown hair." She started slowly as if easing herself into the comfort zone of the situation. I gasped. "Mark my words! You have a crush on someone who doesn't have black hair? You're addicted to anything dark and moody." She bit her lip. "He is dark and moody. He doesn't have to have a specific hair color, you know." She said defensively.
I raised my hands in surrender. "Don't blame me. I remember as clear as day, you telling me how you pictured your future husband. You said he had to be pale like you and have black hair and be into pranks and games and still have a soft spot for you. You wanted him to care for you as if you were glass but still only get into one of your fights unless he had to. And you wanted him to be straightforward and tall. You wanted him to be cold towards other people and still be sweet only towards you. And you wanted him to have a motorcycle and a jacket."
With each word, Charlotte turned redder (if that was even possible.) she grabbed the sides of her head in irritation, pulling hair in front of her face to block her expression.
"She told you that in what, fifth grade?" Ellie said, adding to Charlotte's irritation. "Yes she did, but she still wants a guy like that."
"CAN YOU JUST STOP!" she protested. She lazily tried to hit me. "I feel so alone!" Ellie pouted. "It's not our fault you don't have a crush." I said pointedly. "I do but they're just hormones. You guys have real crushes!!!"
"Hey! I never said I had a crush on Jack." Charlotte raised a hand. "I think you did. You just said 'it's not our fault you don't have a crush.' Doesn't that technically imply that you have a crush on Jack?" I hate it when they turn my words against me.
"Ohhhh. You think you're so clever, don't you?" They were ganging up on me again. "You tried to divert the conversation away from you and Jack. One of your tricks to avoid topics." Charlotte said.
"So anyways, back on the original topic. You and Jack, huh? It's so predictable." Ellie said glaring at me. Charlotte spread out her arms as if preparing a monologue. "Two best friends from birth, separated at a young age due to the twisted lives of jealousy around them. They seem to have found each other, once again."
"Dude, you sound like a fail of Shakespeare." I interfered with her 'oh so great' speech. "Are you saying that Rachel was jealous? When we were ten years old." They both nodded. Charlotte gave more of a 'I know I'm a genius' nod while Ellie gave me more of a sympathetic nod.
"That's stupid." Ellie heaved a groan. "You can be such an idiot. Think about it like this. How many girls were attracted to Jack when you were ten?" I stared at her weirdly. "We were ten... No one had crushes that age. We were children." Ellie rolled her eyes. "Please. Guys were throwing themselves at you. I remember this one guy during art, gave you all of his crayons which were super expensive! For free! He had it bad for you." I shook my head. "He was probably just nice."
"That wasn't just nice. There were talks about the both of you, being the prettiest or handsomest or whatever in the whole school! Girls planned your wedding or spread rumors of when you held hands or did something together. The other girls tried to talk to Jack but he always refused for you. Guys were either wanting to beat Jack up or approach you or be Jack's best friend or worship him. There was talk about how the last guy who had gotten near you, was sent to the hospital because of Jack." Charlotte argued.
I never knew we were that popular in elementary. I remember when Jack came in one day and he had bruised knuckles. That couldn't be because of what happened to that guy. Jack wouldn't do that. And they were just silly rumors spreading.
"And remember the first day Rachel came in? Yeah she was rated second prettiest. She always knew about gossip and even spread some herself. She always was jealous because everyone though you were prettier and smarter. Then her eyes must've fallen on Jack. Oh, you were absent that day, but you should have seen Rachel's reaction when she heard you and Jack were our Golden Couple. She split you guys up, took Jack and you were left in the comforting arms of your followers and me and Charlotte, of course."
My followers? I knew Rachel knew about the latest rumors but Ellie always knew them first. And Ellie has never spread a rumor. When did I have followers? When did any of this start? "Why didn't you guys tell me when this was going on? And how did you know about this?"
Charlotte and Ellie exchanged glances. "We didn't always sit together in every class. People spread rumors regardless of whether we were there to tell you or not. We agreed not to tell you that year after all you went through. And we couldn't explain all of it without explaining all the mean rumors Rachel spread. None of which anyone believed but they were just plain nasty. We were also kids. We weren't exactly sure if what we heard was true, so we didn't want to say anything."
I gave them grateful looks pulling them into a group hug. "Thank you guys for being there." I said. "Now, that's enough life drama for one night. Now let's get this tradition on! Scary movies and popcorn, sad movies and ice cream?" Charlotte offered. Ellie and I pumped our fists in the air. "I call mint chocolate chip!" I screamed, not caring if the people next door heard me. Once again, I'm glad to have friends like them. And thinking back to all that they said, the only thing running through my head was Jack and Rachel. Rachel was jealous?
Jack punched a guy for me? But why? Rachel should know that I'm not someone to cross paths with. She has no proof of anything. She was the reason Jack and I were torn apart. With a new thought in my head, I smiled to myself. Revenge is a dish best served cold.Hahahahahaha! I'm so evil! There goes another chapter. Things are finally getting interesting! Hope you liked it! See you next chapter!
