Chapter 23

So I know that Behind the Wall (now called Separated By a Wall) is better than this story and I can explain why. I've kinda lost all passion for this one but I don't give up on stories so I'm not discontinuing it. Thanks for reading and on with the story!

Charlotte led the way, speeding around passing students until I came upon a crowd. Charlotte switched glances from me to the crowd as if urging me to break them up.

I sigh in frustration. Why did they have to fight? I come to see Dominic with his back on the floor and his arms raised in defense along with an angry Jack repeated slamming his fist down. From what I could see, Jack had a purple eye that was slowly darkening and twitching, a busted lip and a bloodied nose.
Dominic, however, had deep purple splotches on his cheek and an especially large mark on his jaw. His nose was pretty bad too and his eyes held nothing but anger. Already disgusted by the bruises, I sigh and step into the circle putting myself between the two boys causing them to back up in surprise. "What are you doing?" I yell at them. Switching my glare from Jack to Dominic, I hold out both my arms to put more space between them.

"Jack, what happened?" He doesn't say anything. I try and ignore the people around us, their eyes glued to me. I keep up my glare trying to force the answer out of Jack. Which usually works. But for some reason, it's not working now. Whatever they started fighting about is something I'm not supposed to know about or it's simply personal because I always get an answer out of Jack.

I turn to Dominic. "Dominic?" He doesn't respond either. "If you don't answer I'll ask them." I point to the crowd. They stay silent taking a sudden interest in their shoes. "You." I gesture to a freshman most likely. Her hair is tied into a ponytail, glasses resting on her nose and she's clutching onto her binder like it's her lifeline. "What happened?"

She readjusts her glasses and shifts foot to foot as the crowd stares at her. "W-w-well, I-I," she pauses looking at Jack and Dominic. "It's fine. I just want the truth." I glare at Dominic. She looks around and takes a deep breath. "Jack was walking down the hall and then Dominic was all mad." Dominic makes a move towards the girl but I place a hand on his shoulder yanking him back to his original spot.

"They started talking and then it turned to shouting and-"

"Who threw the first punch?" The girl looks between the two boys together and clutched onto her binder even tighter if that was possible. "Jack." she said in barely above a whisper. Dominic smirks slightly. "What were they shouting about?" I look at Charlotte and gesture for her to come in. "They were talking about you." That's when Dominic exploded. He grabbed my wrist pulling me towards him but Jack was quick in action too. He grabbed my other wrist and started a game of tug of war where I was the rope.

Charlotte latched onto Dominic trying to pry him off me. Ellie (who was apparently in the crowd) did the same to Jack until eventually they let me go. I stared at both of them shaking my head. How could they do something like this? Charlotte and Ellie followed me, hot on my heels as I stormed off to my next class.

"Diana." Charlotte tried.

"Diana." Ellie said without shrilling in my ear.

Charlotte lets out an annoyed sigh and latches onto my forearm whipping me around. "Look! We know you don't want to talk about this but-"

"You have to." I hear a deeper voice from behind us. Dominic had somehow caught up. Charlotte and Ellie bumped shoulders to block him off from me and I just stood there with my arms folded. "What?" I  spit, clearly still annoyed from the incident earlier. "You can't seriously be mad." I raise an eyebrow, a clear warning to try again. Strike one. "Oh really and why can't I be mad?" I challenge him. He gulps which I found ridiculous since he was twice my size and has way more muscle. I would have that this would a be a sign that he had learned his lesson. But I was wrong.

"We were fighting because he doesn't want you. I was defending you!" Strike two. Lies. All of them are lies. Jack stuck by me even after I slapped him. He stuck by me when I was sick. He was there when I was ranting for hours on end because my favorite band isn't playing in my town and it made me so mad. I look away for a minute trying to keep myself screaming and then look back at him.

"So how exactly did the conversation go down?" Ellie cuts in, her eyes narrowed and her arms crossed. Dominic stutters for a minute staring at me, Ellie and Charlotte. "Because it isn't true." another voice which I know all too well says behind him. Jack comes up, his hands stuffed in his pockets.

"He was telling me how he was using you and just wanted to keep you until the end of senior year for social status." Charlotte marches up to Dominic giving him a long hard stone cold stare, her eyes piercing into him. "Should I?" she tilts her head slightly as if to acknowledge me. I'm still looking at Jack searching his eyes for the truth. "Yeah. Go ahead." Charlotte's hand connects Dominic's cheek and he backs up. A red handprint is visible on his cheek, as he holds it hissing in pain.

"Fine! Yes, I used you but that was before I realized how.. amazing! And, uh, talented you are!" Charlotte and Ellie stare at me for a sign of approval. "Take out the trash." They link arms with him dragging him down the hall and around the corner. Never underestimate a girl's strength when it comes to the situation.

It was just Jack and I in the hallway now with the deafening silence to accompany us. I let my facade slip and break down almost falling to my knees. But Jack catches me and holds on while I just cry. I don't know how long we were in that position or how long I was crying. But when I finally pulled a way, his sweater was drenched. I sniffled. "I'm sorry about your sweater." He takes it off leaving him in just a t-shirt. "It's fine."

"Thanks for telling me though." I say, trying to lighten the mood. "So why did you fight him?" Jack inhales sharply a smile playing on his lips as he chucles nervously. "Uhh, I did it to protect you." I raise an eyebrow. "Oh really?" He nods. "Okay then. Best friends forever right?" he sighs in annoyance. "Your blind." I hear him mutter under his breath. "What?" I say, daring him to repeat it. But instead of backing down like Dominic did, Jack answered me. "I said your blind! Because I'm in love with you!" And with that, he slams his lips onto mine.

THE END!

READ THIS! READ THIS! READ THIS! DO NOT SKIP! I REPEAT DO NOT SKIP! Yes, I know I ended it very abruptly but like I said in previous chapters I lost passion for this story a long time ago. That doesn't mean I'll lose interest in my other stories. Like I said I'm expanding my genres and realistic fiction is not for me. I will be continuing my other story Separated By a Wall so if you haven't checked that out, go ahead! I also posted a new story called Toxic. Warning: It has a lot of sad content and talks about serious issues. So please, just because I'm warning you that it's sad, don't not read it. AND! VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFO RIGHT HERE! I did leave some holes that were supposed to lead up to longer chapters that I was going to post if I was still into the story. So just leave a comment and I'll add another chapter dedicated to answering your questions. Sorry it had to end like this. But I didn't want to string you along like this forever while I was dying over how badly written it was. So sorry. But hey! I finished a story! As of now, I'm putting completed. But like I said, comment any questions you would like answered and I will be sure to answer them. Thanks again and because you read my story I'm giving away virtual smiley faces!!! Yay!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) That's all the news and I'll see you in my other stories! Peace out!
