It was the next morning, and Mewtwo was sitting on the couch watching highlights of the previous night's Detroit Pistons game as Alec was making breakfast.
"Funny," Alec said. "Never took you as a Pokémon who'd enjoy sports."
"The high scores and fast pace drew me in. I didn't think I'd enjoy it, either."
"You sleep good last night?" Alec asked, hinting about the hand grab.
"No," Mewtwo replied, unaware of what Alec was hinting at. "I had horrid visions during my sleep. I was being tested on, and repeatedly tortured."
"Damn, I'm sorry," Alec said, trying to comfort Mewtwo. "I had a bad dream last night, too. Dreams are the visions in our sleeps. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're bad. My bad dream involved us getting tortured. Although, we both died."
"I always thought it was only me who got these bad dreams, as you call them."
"Everyone gets them. Yours seems like a case of PTSD. If it makes you feel any better, I made breakfast, because last time I checked, you haven't eaten at all since you've been here, and I don't want you starving on me." Alec had prepared pancakes for himself and Mewtwo, and although Mewtwo was still trying to hold up his macho charade, he couldn't deny his hunger.
"I'll eat," Mewtwo sighed. Alec had set a plate of pancakes down with a fork and a knife.
"Use the metal things to eat," he explained to Mewtwo. "The fork is made for stabbing the food and holding it in place. The knife is used to cut the food into smaller chunks easier to eat. The fork is the four-pronged thing, and the knife is the other thing." He laughed as Mewtwo made a haphazard attempt at using the silverware. "Let me make this easier for you," he said as he cut Mewtwo's pancakes into smaller pieces. "Now you don't need the knife." Mewtwo used the fork to lift a piece of pancake to his mouth, and as he extracted it from the fork, he was surprised at the pleasant taste.
"This is actually quite good. I have to admit, I'm beginning to trust you. Don't ruin this."
"I'm glad to hear it," Alec responded happily. "The fact you could've left for the past couple days or even killed me and decided not to speaks volumes. I told you, not all humans are bad."
"You might be right," Mewtwo said.
"Hey, since you enjoy sports, there's gonna be a hockey game on tonight. The Detroit Red Wings are at home against the Philadelphia Flyers. You wanna watch it?"
"Sure," Mewtwo replied, beginning to kind of like Alec. The day passed and Mewtwo and Alec spent their time talking about a lot of different types of sports, as well as Mewtwo saying whether it thought it would like it or not. As the Red Wings game began, Mewtwo sat right beside Alec to watch the action, and Alec explained everything to know about hockey during the game.
"The people wearing red are who I'm cheering for, and the people in the white and orange are who I'm rooting against," Alec explained. As the game went on, Mewtwo couldn't help but be entranced by the skaters on the ice, the grueling pace, and the absolute physicality of the sport. "Welp, scoreless after the first period. Let's pick things up in the second, boys." Almost immediately into the second period, Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond scored the first goal of the game. Alec and Mewtwo both jumped off the couch in excitement. They couldn't contain themselves.
"This game is so exciting!" Mewtwo exclaimed. With under five minutes left in the second period, the Flyers tied the game.
"How did you let that in? Just, how?" Alec asked, dumbfounded at how the Red Wings' goalie let in such an easy shot to save. The score was even at the end of the second period, and Alec and Mewtwo knew something had to happen for the Red Wings to win. The third period started, and the Flyers scored again, taking the lead. "Get better, for the love of fucking God! Why do you suck right now?" The Red Wings answered quickly with a goal from Ben Chiarot.
"We're back in the game!" Mewtwo exclaimed.
"We need one more to win." The game went without score for a long time. It was the final minute of the game, and Alec and Mewtwo were both on the edge of their seats, and with eight seconds left in the game, Dylan Larkin scored the go-ahead goal. "Yes! Yes! Fuck yes!" Alec rejoiced, jumping up and down.
"We did it!" Mewtwo happily screamed. The final score was three-two and the Red Wings pulled off the win.
"It's getting late, I should probably go to bed." Alec said. He went to go to bed and Mewtwo followed him there.
"I had a lot of fun today. You may not be so bad after all." Mewtwo said contently.
"I had fun too. Glad to have you here. Hopefully you have a good sleep tonight." Alec said. The night went on and Alec would have another nightmare, though this one was way weirder than terrifying. He had a dream about him and Mewtwo being forced underwater by the Wet Bandits from Home Alone. When Alec woke up, he took a few blinks to recover from the weirdness of his dream. "What the fuck was that?" he whispered to himself. He immediately looked over at Mewtwo, who was again shaking. He decided to wake Mewtwo up and show him everything was okay. Mewtwo awoke scared and breathing heavily. Alec tried calming it down. "It's okay, it's okay. Everything's fine, just breathe. I was gonna go out to the couch to try and catch some Z's somewhere else. I think you'll be okay there."
They went out to the couch and Alec sat down. Mewtwo immediately curled himself into Alec's lap and started to purr for the first time in a long time. Alec couldn't help but smile as he could feel the rumble throughout his body. He began to gently pet Mewtwo and reassure him that everything would be okay. As they both fell asleep, the collective anxieties of Mewtwo and Alec melted away as they both knew that this was a bond that would last for a long time. Alec and Mewtwo slept even more comfortably than they did the night before.
