The next day Hope had been woken early by a house elf, who'd informed her that she needed to get dressed and be in her own office by seven o'clock. She took a shower and got dressed into the same dress she wore to dinner last night, feeling it was the only thing the Malfoys would look displeased at. Narcissa also wore nothing but dresses, which lead to her believe she was also to wear dresses.

Once she was ready she found her way to the office Narcissa had told her she would be studying in. A man dressed in a muggle business suit with a well kept beard was standing in front of the desk at the back of the room.

"You're late", he said, "sit. Hurry up."

Hope, not wanting to argue. Quickly sat down on the chair by the desk. On the desk were several books and papers with tests on them.

"Lucius tells me I only have one week to make sure your up to date with your studies in your third year", the man said, "today I am going to be assessing where your at, then I shall build a curriculum around this."

Hope gave a small nod.

"I am Professor MacLennan", he wrote his name in chalk on the black board above the desk, "in front of you are six papers assessing your knowledge on the six subjects you have taken last year. As you have not yet studied care of magical creatures or muggle studies I shall be teaching you the basics in those subjects myself.

Hope felt mildly sick. He really wanted her to do six test papers in one sitting? She looked at the stack of papers in front of her. The top paper was for History of Magic, her worst subject.

"Well", Professor MacLennan said, "let's get started, we've got half an hour for each paper. Then we'll do a quick break before a practical assessment."

Hope pulled the first paper towards her and grabbed the quill from the ink pot beside her. Her head began to ache as she tried to remember as much as she could from professor bins lectures. She'd only gone through three quarters of the paper when Professor MacLennan tutted loudly and pulled the paper away, pushing a transfiguration test in front of her. This process repeated several times as Hope was forced to remember everything she possibly could from every lesson she'd had at Hogwarts. Some of the questions she couldn't answer, as they simply hadn't covered the topic in her classes. Her Defense-Against-the-Dark-Arts knowledge was lacking more than she'd realized, due to Professor Lockhart being her teacher last year.

After three hours of headaches and disappointed tutting from Professor MacLennan he finally took her charms paper from her and looked through her answers quickly.

"Well he said", your answers could have been much worse. Your knowledge in transfiguration is relatively acceptable, Herbology and Charms wasn't awful. Your memory of your history of magic lessons was appalling, however, it appears you haven't spent much time in your potions class paying attention, and I'm beginning to wonder if you ever even attended your defence against the dark Arts classes."

Hope felt her cheeks burn.

"Now we shall move on to a practical exam."

Professor MacLennan then had her brew a swelling solution from memory, identify several pictures of magical plants from memory, and examined her wand movement without casting (as of course she was underage and therefore not allowed to use magic outside of school).

Once they were finished Hope was properly exhausted. She was ready to go lie down on her bed. She sat down at the desk chair while Professor MacLennan wrote down several things on a piece of parchment.

"That should be all for today", he said finally, rolling up the parchment, and collecting up the books and test papers on the desk, "I'll be seeing you the same time tomorrow, Evangeline."
