Eve walked into the room as the door shut behind her; she knew something was up, so she walked over to the door and pressed her ear against it. No use, not even the sound of a bomb going off would enter this room. Why did she leave her out of the conversation? And what did she whisper to that old man in the hallway when they first met? Secrets, secrets, secrets, that’s all there ever is now. She turned back around and started to look around the room. It seemed normal, but there was still that weird feeling that she was missing something obvious.

The room was pretty big probably twice the size of a regular hotel room. But the problem was that it was very bare. Only the necessities seemed to be in here. One single bed was pushed up to the opposite wall, its end facing the wall to her left. There were white sheets and a thin tan blanket that was folded up on top of two white pillows. She looked at the walls; they were that same gross color as the outside of the hotel, only it wasn’t peeling off. Then there was dark brown dresser, with one of its legs missing, right next to the bed.

“He really needs to take better care of this place… or at least spruce it up a bit,” Eve muttered. But she wasn’t complaining, after years of being on the streets, she was glad to even have a place to stay, let alone have a bed that would actually be hers. She walked past the bed and toward a door that she thought might be a bathroom.

Looking for the switch she took a step into the room and immediately started to lose her balance. Eve looked down and shrieked; it was a straight downward drop to complete and utter nothing; she couldn’t even see the bottom it was so pitch black! Her arms reached out for something to grab and steady herself; but all her fingertips grasped were air. This was it, the first time she actually felt like she had a place to stay was the moment she would fall to her death.

Just before she was about to fall, she heard someone swear behind her. A pair of strong hands grabbed the back of her shirt and yanked her back onto the carpeted floor. She didn’t even look to see who it was, but she kind of guessed. All she did was concentrate on her breathing and try to steady her heart rate.

“Goddamn you Maximus! I told you seventeen years ago that this would happen! But no you don’t listen to anybody do you?!” Triss yelled at Maximus’ back. Maximus just ignored her; grabbed Eve’s arm and half dragged her back to the bed. Eve’s eyes were still bulging, her heart still racing; she didn’t even notice both of them come into the room.

“Hey… Hey!” Maximus snapped a few fingers in front of her face. Eve shook her head , eyes still a bit unsure about what was happening.

“W-What was that?” Eve said shakily.

“It’ll be explained later on in your training, but are you okay?” he said lifting up her chin and making her gaze directly in his eyes. They were a deep purple, almost like the color of eggplant.

Maximus stood up and turned around to face Triss. Even Eve wouldn’t have approached her she looked so livid. Maximus must know what he was doing.

“She’s perfectly fine, just a little shaken up by the looks of it,” he said chuckling nervously. Triss just made an annoyed grunt, walked over to the door and slammed it shut. Maximus then turned to talk to Eve again.

“You should probably go take a shower and rest up. Training starts tomorrow and it’s going g to be brutal, so get ready,” he tossed a towel to her face. “The bathroom is out in the hall to your left, has an “X” through the middle of it.” Eve numbly got up and walked out the door toward the bathroom.

Eve got out of the shower. Hot water always made her feel rejuvenated. She walked back to the room opened the door and gasped. The room had completely transformed.
