AU: POST-GAME

The Christmas afternoon Tenko spent with Himiko is one of the best day she could ever ask for. They drove for a while, admiring all the Christmas lights that decorated the streets of Tokyo with the snow still falling gently.

Eventually, they went to the park they used to go on their dates. Himiko wanted to taste those two cheesecakes in peace there in their usual bench.

Maybe it's nothing so special or super fun because of the little time they have before that snowstorm hits, but being with Himiko makes everything magical (well, she's a powerful mage after all) and beautiful.

However, there is something suspicious about the redhead that Tenko had noticed. First of all, the sudden invitation to go out; usually, Himiko organizes everything, even weeks before an event, Tenko remember her saying that she would have prefered spending Christmas with her mother. A valid choice, given that they don't spend so much time together.

She also noticed how Himiko gave a vague answer when asked if she had celebrated with her mother. Maybe something happened?

"Hey Tenko, is everything okay?" the brunette felt a small hand grabbing her shoulder, pulling her out of her thoughts. Tenko blinked a couple times before turning to Himiko who was looking at her with a little concerned.

"Oh yeah I'm okay, sorry... I just got a bit distracted" she admitted scratching her cheek sheepishly. Himiko just hummed as she wrapped her arms around the other girl.

"I think you should be more focused on me, don't you think?" She smiled brightly with pink cheeks.

"Yeah of course!" she answered giggling softly.

There was another silence between them before Himiko pulled back with an expectant look on her face.

"So... shall we taste those cheesecakes?" Tenko grinned widely, she was waiting for this.

Quickly, Himiko unwrapped the packets of the two strawberry matcha cheesecakes and offered one to her girlfriend with a plastic forks Himiko had brought along.

Tenko take a big bite of the dessert; it's super delicious! It's so soft and sweet and the pieces of strawberry give that extra touch that makes it perfect!

Tenko turned a moment to look at Himiko and there, she realized that her suspicions weren't wrong.

Himiko was sitting next to her, but she seemed to be spacing out. Her eyes were unfocused and she kept fidgeting with her hands, she doesn't even touch her cheesecake.

"Himiko? Are you alright?"

"Huh? Oh yeah! Why wouldn't I be?" Himiko looked at her with a forced smile. She tried to play it cool but Tenko can see her nervousness.

"Are you sure? Did something happened, Himiko?" Tenko asked, giving Himiko her full attention, momentarily laying the cheesecake next to her.

"No no! Nothing happened at all Tenko, It's just that..."

"What is it Himiko? Tenko is always here to listen to you." the brunette added softly taking Himiko's hands, squeezing them in reassurance.

The redhead didn't answer right away, then Himiko let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding and gave Tenko's hand a slight squeeze.

"It's... It's kind of silly really... but I've had a little discussion with my mother yesterday, when i tried to convince her celebrating Christmas with me." Himiko muttered. Tenko nodded silently, now she understand why Himiko didn't want to bring the subject.

"Do you want to share what happened with me?" Tenko whispered her voice soft and gentle. Himiko nodded weakly while Tenko leaned forward putting her girlfriend closer to her.

"At the beginning, I occasionally tried to convince my mother to spend Christmas together, she had always refused without telling me why and, I admit, I started to get a little frustrated, to the point that yesterday I got angry at her. She tried to defend herself by saying that my father wasn't present and that she'd rather work than celebrate Christmas with me and that really made me lose my temper." Himiko continued talking, her voice trembling "In the end, she accepted but unwillingly because I raised my voice and I regret doing it." Himiko sniffed, burying her face into Tenko's chest as she tried to keep her voice steady.

"Today she just went silent for the whole day, we just had lunch together and then immediately left." Himiko cried out while clenching Tenko's shirt with her fists. "I just wanted to spend time with her but she keeps pushing me away..."

Tenko is speechless, she doesn't know what to think. She's feeling so much emotions, so much sadness and anger seeing her Himiko like this. Was it really necessary to behave like this towards your daughter when she only propose to spend time together, especially on this day of happiness?

Tenko couldn't do nothing but hug the poor mage, kissing the top of her head.

"I'm so sorry to hear all this Himiko, I wish I could do anything to help you." Tenko murmured against the redheads hair.

"You're already helping me." Himiko mumbled "when she left, I didn't want to stay alone at home, I tried to call Angie but she was busy. She knew too about what happened and she was very disappointed."

"As she should, so am I." Tenko added, before letting Himiko continuing the speech.

"I decided then to come to your house, hoping you would accept to spent time with me too and bought the desserts. I'm so sorry I disturbed you and interrupted your celebrations because of me."

"What?! You haven't disturbed me! On the contrary, Tenko is so glad to spend time with her parents and with you today, you just made this day even more fun! I'm sorry about all this though, but Tenko is sure, later this evening, your mother will probably understands what she did and apologize to you!" Tenko responded with sincerity in her tone. She felt bad that Himiko had to suffer through this by herself, especially considering that she hates confrontation so much.

"Yeah... I hope so too, but I won't keep my hopes high too much. Still, thank you Tenko, really." Himiko replied smiling weakly.

"Anytime, love" Tenko caressed her lover cheek as Himiko leaned into her hand.

"Hey, can we stay here a while longer?"

"Of course, so we can finish our cheesecakes, they're so good!"

"Oh yes wait, the cheesecakes!" Himiko exclaimed pulling away from her girlfriend and taking her piece. "Let's eat them before they get ruined!"

"Okay!" Tenko smiled widely at Himiko's words, surprised by her sudden enthusiasm and they both started devouring their desserts, chatting a little about their future plans and magical stuff. Suddenly, Himiko's phone started ringing.

"It's probably her" Himiko said, then she answered the call.

In the meantime, Tenko remained silent, trying to listening their conversation. The call only lasted a few minutes, after that Himiko ended the call.

"I tried to follow your conversation, what did she say?"

"She's sorry, she said she want to apologize when I'll come back home and maybe trying to celebrate this evening." Himiko explained looking down at her shoes.

"Oh, that's good, that's really good!" Tenko smiled reassuringly to her girlfriend.

"Yeah, she also said to go home quickly, the snowstorm is coming."

"Oh shi- we better go then!"
They both stood up, throwing the empty plastic plates and forks in a trash bin before they hurried to Himiko's car. The red haired girl started driving as the weather started to change slowly, the snow now falling much faster.

"Are you feeling better now?"
Tenko asked after some minutes of silence.

"Yes, much better now thanks to you," Himiko turned to look at Tenko smiling brightly. "Thank you again."

"No problem Himiko! Tenko promises you everything will be fine!"
