a faint sound of rhythmic drums and people singing and laughing echoes its way into a warmly lit hut on the other side of the village. while everyone is already partying and having the time of their lives, the well known family of six is still making their final efforts in getting ready.

the youngest runs around screaming, being chased by her father while two of the older boys finish up their braids with the aid of their mother. a bored looking girl with an unusually neat and spruced up hairstyle can be found standing by the pod entrance arms crossed, sighing spiritessly. "i don't want that paint stuff on my face, it's gross!" tuk groans when getting finally caught by her dad. "it's to show our respect, look" jake says pointing at the older siblings "lo'ak, neteyam and kiri are wearing it too. and mom and dad!". tuk sticks out her tongue while being forcefully sat down on a chair by jake, trying hard to wiggle away from his grip.

"ma tuktirey, listen to your father.." neytiri says calmly, taking a small meaninful look towards her daughter. the small girl quietly obeys, still looking grumpy but not fighting back when his father carefully traces his fingers along her face, leaving behind white lines of paint.

"okay, you're ready now" neytiri smiles delightedly, gently patting neteyam on his shoulders. "thanks mom" he says, getting up from the floor and streching away the aches of being sat down in the same position for quite a while. "i think these turned out pretty rad, don't you?" the older boy says proudly, showing his mom the cornrow type of hairstyle he did on lo'ak.

"please tell me he didn't fuck up- i mean mess up my hair mom" the younger boy mutters anxiously, trying to turn and look at her. "yes, it's really nice" neytiri says after examining the hairstyle, tracing her fingers along lo'aks hair "i think it suits you"

after a bit more hassle and arguing the family finally arrives at the beach, where the party is already in full swing. just about the whole clan is gathered around a big fire in the middle of the scene, adults drinking something from small wooden cups and everyone dancing together, trying to talk over the loud music. "can you remind me why i had to come here in the first place?.." kiri scoffs, looking around. this was really not the kind of thing she would have gone to if she had the chance to choose. "the tulkun returned from their migration this morning, that's why we're celebrating" jake explains, turning his amazed gaze away from everyone down to the girl. "they should migrate more often.." lo'ak breathes out, a wide smile on his lips. "can we go now?" he asks excitedly looking up at his parents, ready to sprint to the mass of people ahead. "sure, go have fun. but be safe! neteyam, look over your siblings" jake says, taking a hold of his oldest sons shoulder while all the other kids run to the party. "yes sir" neteyam says nodding, looking jake quickly in the eyes before running after the others with a huge grin on his face.

music playing, everyone laughing and the athmosohere feeling almost euphoric, the kids dance around together and yell the lyrics to the songs from the top of their lungs. "yeah, show them tuk!" lo'ak hypes up his little sister, clapping and watching as she twirls and jumps energetically around the middle of the small circle they created. neteyam and kiri laugh, starting to clap and get into it aswell. before long they all spin around hands flowing along with the music, feeling the beat run through their bodies and into their heads.

snapping out of this trance-like state all the feelings bursting inside of him got him into, neteyam feels a small tap on his shoulder. opening his eyes and looking around confused, he sees ao'nung standing behind him with a smirk infused smile plastered across his face.
