after the loss (lo'ak x tsireya)

the limp body of a teenage boy in her arms, neytiri screams in agony as she looks down at her firstborn sons lifeless eyes. the fight is finally over as darkness steps to the side and let's the sun come out, shining bitterly down on to the grieving mother and her son.

a tall blue man stands a few feet away, tears slowly running down his cheeks as he watches his mate rock backwards and forwards over the body. neytiris screams and cries bring back memories from years and years ago, ones that jake wouldn't want to look back at. not being able to take it anymore he turns around, noticing his other son watching from a distance with a smaller girl by his side, clearly trying his best to hold back the stinging tears in the verge of making their way out.

"son.." jake whispers softly, walking up to the boy and taking a hold of his shoulder. lo'ak lifts his gaze up and looks at his dad, an absolutely dejected look on his face. "can you take your siblings home" the man says, "..please".

jake squeezes the boy's shoulder gently, giving a meaningful sort of; 'i understand it's hard but i need you to do this' look at him. lo'ak nods quietly, turning back with a sorrowful tsireya loosening her grip to his side.

after gathering kiri, spider and a sobbing tuk trying to cling onto neteyams hand up and onto their ilus, lo'ak and the rest start slowly sailing away from the still raging fires and a small rock where three blue figures can still be seen. looking behind him, lo'ak sees his dad crouched down next to neytiri still wailing and caressing his departed brother.

the boy quickly turns back, closing his eyes to try and numb the searing pain boiling up to the surface and clogging his throat. "breathe lo'ak" he suddenly hears a comforting soft voice from beside him, instantly grasping who it belongs to.

looking over he sees a teary eyed tsireya riding her ilu up next to him, a hand on her stomach. she breathes slowly in and out, instructing lo'ak in the process. listening to the girl he slows his rapidly beating heart down to a calmer pace and shakes his head slightly, trying to get out of the blur. having a last look at the girl before moving his gaze up ahead, lo'ak takes a hold of the girl's hand while his lips curl slightly upwards to a small smile.

getting back to the village, kiri and the others continue riding towards the marui pods. the now eldest son suddenly stops however, looking uncomfortably at all the people running hastily on and around the pathways up ahead, the cries and yells of everyone so loud that they make their way effortlessly all the way over to the breakwaters. gulping loudly and tightening his grip on the hande of his ilu, lo'ak just watches the senseless crowd as he hops down into the shallow water, feeling his feet hit the soft sand in the bottom.

tsireya just observes the boy, not saying or doing anything. she lets the scene play out before opening her mouth, quite worried about the boy, "we don't have to go back yet if you're not ready"

she slides down off of her ilu, appearing next to the boy. lo'ak doesn't say anything, just stares ahead with his somber heartbroken gaze. tsireya looks at his face for a bit, examining every little detail to try and read him but not getting anything back. "i'll leave you alone then.." she accepts her defeat wistfully, flashing a small sorry smile before turning, ready to swim away.

"please stay.." she turns back, seeing the boy now looking at her with watery eyes and an outstreched arm. taking a gentle hold of it tsireya glides back to lo'ak, looking up at him. without a warning the lean boy hugs her, wrapping his arms tightly around the girl and starting to quietly sob on her shoulder.

"it's my fault" lo'ak whispers, sniffing slightly.

"what? nothing's your fault lo'ak" tsireya tries to assure the boy, her eyes tearing up when she hears his broken voice.

"i shouldn't have..we shouldn't have..." he tries to speak but the words don't want to come out. instead they get stuck, the letters wrapping around eachother into a huge suffocating ball of stored up rage and anger, anger at himself for even asking that boy to go with him in the first place, what if he hadn't? neteyam would still be alive and maybe he'd be dead instead. that's what he deserves after all, not him. not the perfect and obedient dream son his brother was. the future warrior, best of his age..

he on the other hand is the biggest disappointment, not only to his parents but to everyone else as well. always getting into trouble..why can't he just follow the rules, what's so difficult about it? it hadn't seemed to be hard for neteyam..

"if i hadn't asked him to come with me to save spider, he wouldn't be...well, you know..dead" lo'ak mumbles quietly, the waterworks slowly turning off as he starts to calm down. he feels tsireya gaze up at him, her hands following behind and cupping his wet cheeks.

"stop that lo'ak.." tsireya says crying, her eyes wondering on the boy's face. "it is not your fault, i won't let you take the blame for something you didn't do" she stammers, trying to wipe away lo'aks tears with her shaky fingers. "you didn't shoot him"

the boy watches as the blue eyed girl talks to him, seeing the effect his words and feelings really have on her making his gaze soften. everything she's saying really hits, he isn't sure if it's the way she looks at him or how she so desperately tries to wipe away his tears as to make his gloomy mood disappear but whatever it is, it's oddly working.

"i love you" lo'ak whispers, his eyes tearing up once more. the girl falls silent, her mouth left slightly open. after the initial shock her lips curve into a warm smile, her eyes sparkling in the faint sunshine of the morning. wiping her own eyes this time, tsireya let's out a faint gigglish sigh, "i love you too lo'ak"

the pair stays looking into eachothers eyes, both wearing small beaming smiles and snuggling closer to the other's body. even in agonising, life changing moments like this where you've seen first-hand that tomorrow isn't promised, tragedy truly does bring people together.

heyy sorry i haven't given you anything
in a few days, i haven't had that many
ideas that i would've been like really
inspired to carry out yk 😬
but here's a chapter !! 😍😍 (a kinda
shitty one honestly..)

also, i've been mostly asked to do these about lo'ak & tsireya and neteyam & ao'nung and both of these ships i've actually enjoyed writing about (😋) but some people have also asked for kiri & ao'nung and bc i personally can't see it (i honestly see kiri & rotxo being together more (if love even really fits to kiris whole personality thing yk) than her and ao'nung and i can maybe perhaps possibly some day write about them if you'd like) so it'll probably take me a while to dive into that ship, if i ever do 😓🫤

if you have any, i mean ANY ideas/scenarios for chapers please tell me and i can see
what i can do 🙏

AND I JUST HAVE TO MENTION THAT I WENT TO SEE ATWOW FOR THE SECOND TIME ON MONDAY AND I LOVED IT EVEN MORE & BAWLED MY EYES OUT FOR PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE DURATION
OF THE MOVIE 😭😭‼️😫
def  could go & see it again and
again and again...
