NOTE: This is becoming it's own story and the new verisons are in it's own story, but here's the old one's just because :)

Eli sat in the corner of the crowded room, his subtle mohawk adorning his hair as he held a solo cup of whatever cheap concoction was made that night. The two of you were in separate worlds, universes. As your heart was being crushed for the night, Eli's heart was in shambles for a completely different reason. He had broken someone else's heart, his now ex-girlfriend, Moon.

It had been rather complicated, really. Moon was a montage, literal sunshine in Eli's dark life. Her love didn't run deep, but it ran strong, she enjoyed being with Eli, and their relationship had been comfortable and simple. Maybe the reason why he couldn't just let it remain simple was that liked the pain, he liked knowing he was doing something wrong. He enjoyed being unhappy in his life, right?

The first time they broke up was because he wanted power over her, and everyone around him, just to feel a little in control of himself. But this time he was trying to rewrite his narrative, and take control of his own life, rather than control others. Either way, it had pushed away Moon, but instead of her breaking his heart, he had broken hers. He was the dark cold midnight rain to her glowing starlit night. Moon had stayed the same throughout everything, while he had changed completely. He felt guilty, knowing that the first time they had finally united was because she jumped right off the cliff and landed right into the ocean. It was slow, the two of them finally finding each other, a love potion made out of time. But he unraveled every moment of pain, the months of pining he endured, looking back on it with shame.

That summer, when the two reunited, it was shiny and perfect. Every day with Moon was perfect, always wrapped up in a perfect bow, her sweet kisses, and soft words. He had finally gotten what he wanted, her.

But then eventually he realized that it was all a lie.

It was always so simple for her, she didn't stay up countless nights wishing she had done the right thing and ran after her, begging for her to stay. She didn't watch him move on so easily, breaking his heart in two, she didn't come crawling back as he did.

But his feelings stemmed before that.

That's how the two could relate, you and Eli. A deep love had been formed long before she ever noticed him. Moon had spent years before falling into Hawk's arms. Years of making fun of Eli, giggling at the jokes that the bullies made about 'shit lip' and 'the freak who got run over by the lawnmower'. He knew he was the punchline to many jokes, he knew that Moon was a part of it, but it didn't matter. Both Moon and the boy you loved, alike, were shiny. They had everything the other wanted, the popularity, the looks, and confidence. They had made the both of you feel worthy, they were everything to both of you.

Moon finally looked at Eli after he gained his confidence after he became Hawk. The one thing he couldn't wrap his mind around was the fact that his confidence made him human. Moon, Yasmine, and all the other popular rich kids thought it was okay to make fun of Eli for how he looked. He wasn't considered 'normal', only because those kids were too uncomfortable to ask and too ignorant to understand. Hawk had spent so much time running away from those true feelings, doing everything possible to not be a nerd, to be accepted. That he had changed completely, in a blink of an eye. Eli tried to understand her, tried searching for her dark side, he wanted to save his relationship with Moon, he loved her. It was evident that he had a dark side, he just wanted to figure out her flaws, her insecurities. He wanted to humanize her because she starting to be revealed as this person who had hurt him and only accepted him after he was deemed enough. He was worthy of compassion because he had confidence.

Eli had to confront his scar every single day of his life. It has always been a part of him, when he was only a baby he had surgery to correct his cleft lip. As a child, it wasn't bad, kids avoided him, maybe whispered about it. Demetri hadn't cared about the scar, becoming his best friend, and standing by his side until Eli no longer allowed him to. For so long, he didn't even know what was wrong, he couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that people didn't like him because of a scar. When he realized the truth, that it was so plain and straightforward, he just didn't look 'normal', people had rather jumped to conclusions than ask him about his lip. He knew the truth, but it didn't stop him from avoiding his reflection for years, to accepting the fact that no one could ever love him, and that he would essentially 'die a virgin'. The grueling thoughts came with High School.
