My name is Jikan Ushiromuki. And I love my life.
I was born in a world where around 80% of the population is born with some sort of power, called "quirks". I don't think anybody else's quirk beats mine.
Three times a day, I can go back one minute in time. It doesn't seem like much but it's always such a life saver. Whenever I've said something stupid or awkward in a conversation, I just go back a minute and start over. Or maybe I was a little late to work. No problem, I just go back a minute and run a little bit faster. It really is the best.
On my right wrist there are three black tally marks. Each time I use my quirk, one goes away. At midnight every night the tally marks refresh. While I'm not a big fan of tattoos, I don't care much about the markings. I love my quirk too much to care.
"Hey, beautiful," an old man, probably in his forties said to me, a twenty-two year old, as I walked back to my apartment. I had just been grocery shopping and I was carrying the grocery bags in my arms. They were heavy. I really didn't want to deal with him, or the bags right now. "What's your name—..."
With a simple, subconscious thought, I was back in time one minute. I had used up one of my tally marks for today. I was further down the street, and I took this opportunity to cross the street so I wouldn't have to see the old man. He wasn't lying, though. I really was beautiful. I had long, silky, silver hair with dark, thick eyebrows. My eyes were a clear gray, my sister, Hana Ushiromuki, often described them as a stormy day at sea. My soft, pale skin and beautiful figure finished it off. It wasn't ever a surprise when I was hit on in the streets.
I ran a hand through my middle-parted, curtain bangs, hair. Gosh, I seriously did love my life. I had a job as a media manager for a company, a lovely apartment in a small city just on the outskirts of Deika city with my sister, and a stable income. Nothing could be better—
BANG!
My groceries dropped as the floor shook violently below me. What. Is. That. I thought in shock as I looked up to see a giant monster stomp through the city, knocking over entire buildings. It had huge spikes along its back. Its eyes were pure white. A giant radio was hanging around its neck. It was horrifying. I screamed as it ran through our city towards Deika. It was heading straight for me and my sister's apartment.
With another scream, I attempted to run towards our apartment. "Hana!" I screeched. "Get out of there! Run! Please!" There was no way she heard me. When I had left to get groceries she was peacefully watching the news on our flatscreen TV.
Hana was all I had left. When we were kids my Dad had left, and by the time we graduated high school, our mother had died of cancer. It was sad, but things were looking up for Hana and I. We were happy living together. I had never felt closer to anybody than I did with my sister during these times.
CRASH!
The beast's giant fists swung into the building. Straight into the second floor. Straight into our apartment. I ran to the side of the street as the beast continued to stomp past me. It looked like it was crying. No, no, this can't be happening! Instinctively, I turned back time. This time, I would run a little faster, scream a little louder. I had used my second tally mark.
One minute wasn't enough time. I ran as hard as I could, screeching louder than ever before as I attempted to reach our apartment in time. But it was no use. Again, a giant fist crashed into our apartment, causing the building to collapse and shatter. I collapsed on my knees in shock as tears began to stream down my face. The monster was running towards me. It was going to stomp right on top of me if I didn't move. I got up in preparation to run, but then I noticed something. Tomura Shigaraki.
