Sneaking into the meeting was something I really didn't feel like doing. I was more of a laid back kind of dude, like my father. I could leave all the counseling to my brother, Roy. As the counsellors walked into the Big House, I snuck in behind, invisible to everyone.
The counsellors took their seats at the ping pong table they used to discuss important matters. Chiron stood at the head of the table, his face covered in worry. I stood close to the door to keep my distance, in case someone might accidentally bump into me.
"Chiron, why'd you call us all here?" Amaryllis, head of the Demeter cabin asked annoyed.
"We've received word from Anthony about Armageddon," he replied. "He's found some new information."
A crimson haired boy in the back perked up. He looked emo or goth with all the dark clothes he wore. A gold skull chain hung from his neck and there was a tattoo of a dark mark on his left arm and another on his right arm that said "DEATH" in fancy writing.
"How is he doing? Is he okay?" the red head asked worriedly.
"Calm down, Zayn" Chiron replied. "It's been a couple of weeks since we've last heard from him but he's doing just fine."
The red head, apparently Zayn, sat back in his chair, relieved but clearly still worried.
"So what did he say?" asked Victor, leader of the Nike cabin.
"Armageddon has been quiet as of late. He still doesn't know where they're hiding but he's found out some useful information. They're looking for an object called the Chaos Enigma," Chiron answered.
"What's that?" a counsellor, whose named I didn't know, questioned.
"He still doesn't know. But he says he will visit as soon as he can to tell us everything he has learned."
Damn it's hard to hear from all the way over here. Sneaking closer to the table would probably be the best idea. I took one tiny step when another bright red haired boy quickly looked straight at me. I stiffened instantly and held my breath.
"Something wrong, Scott?" Chiron asked.
Scott paused before answering.
"No," he replied. "But is there a reason this is a meeting? Are we not to tell the other campers?"
"We do not want the campers in a panic. The last thing we need is for them to think another war is upon us."
Everyone stayed silent. So does this mean that we're about to go to war? I had heard about Armageddon and what they tried to do last year. They almost caused a nuclear disaster that could've wiped out the entire human race. And this Anthony guy stopped them. He must be good to face them alone.
"That is everything I wanted to discuss on the matter. You are dismissed back to your dinner," Chiron announced.
Everyone got up and started back towards the door. I quickly clung to the wall to stay hidden. Once everyone was gone, I fled behind them.
A few yards from the dining pavilion, a hand grab my shoulder and quickly spun me around. I came face to face with Scott. Damn it. So close.
"How did you know I was there?" I asked him.
"I felt a change in the air currents with your movements. You were eavesdropping where you weren't supposed to," he deduced.
"I...well...," I tried to stutter out a reason for why I had been eavesdropping. It was only because Blake asked me to.
"Don't worry. I won't tell anyone. But you heard what Chiron said. You're not allowed to tell any of the campers just yet. Understand?" he commanded.
I nodded my head, which I realized he still couldn't see and I made myself visible. I nodded again.
"Good. Now let's go finish dinner," Scott said.
We walked back to the dining pavilion and separated to our respective tables. Blake came running back over to me once he saw that I sat back down.
"So what happened?" he asked frantically.
"I don't think I should say it out loud here. I'll tell you later."
Scott and just told me not to tell anyone, but Blake would find out one way or another. He was very persistent.
Later came after dinner and the campfire. We stayed out just a bit later than curfew so we could talk about the meeting. I explained everything that I had heard.
"Whoa, a war," Blake repeated astonished. "I can't believe it."
"Yeah, me neither. They must be some pretty bad people," I replied back.
"What's a Chaos Enigma though?" Blake asked.
"I don't know, but maybe we can find out. Let's talk to some of the Athena kids tomorrow," I answered.
"Sounds like a plan."
Just then, we heard a harpy shriek in the distance.
"We should get back," I said.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow!"
And we ran off in the directions of our cabins.
