16 - lazy day

"Ugh turn the fucking alarm off Matt", I groan as the loud ring blasts through the room, waking me up.

"Shit it's not an alarm, Nick's calling me", he replies as he picks up his phone and answers the call.

"What's up?"

"Shit sorry i didn't see the time...can't you ask mum to take you?"

"I uh stayed the night at Tilly's?"

Suddenly, I can hear Nicks shouts down the phone, probably extremely confused as to how Matt ended up sleeping in my house.

I look over and see Matt rubbing his eyes, looking tired but exasperated at Nick's yelling.

Looking over at the clock by my bed, it reads 8:00. I guess another day of no school is on the cards for me. Leaning over and grabbing my phone, I pull up my messages.

wont be making it to school today but thought I'd let u know

Too easy. Rolling my eyes, I turned back to Matt to see he had ended the call with Nick.

"Is everything okay?", I ask.

"Yeah it's cool Nick and Chris just needed a lift to school and were wondering where I was", he replies, placing his phone back where it was beside the bed.

"Nick didn't sound too happy...", I comment. Nick had seemed more angry than surprised that Matt was here.

"Well uhh Nick and Chris aren't your biggest fans at the moment since you've been ignoring their messages.", Matt confesses bluntly.

Shit. I still hadn't replied to anyone's messages over the past few days but I didn't realise it would make them upset.

"They've been worried and asking what's wrong and they've heard nothing from you.", Matt continues.

"B-but that's not fair! I was...", I trail off. What can I say? I don't want to tell Matt the real reason but I also can't just let them all think I'm blocking them out for no reason. I'm not trying to block anyone out. It's just hard to process what happened let alone talk to other people about it.

"You were what Tilly? What excuse do you possibly have for ignoring your best friends for days?", Matt asks, sounding frustrated.

"I- your right. I don't have an excuse. I'm sorry for blocking you all out.", I say, too tired to argue with him right now.

"Will you at least come to school tomorrow?", he asks, his voice softer now.

I take a moment to think about it.

Can I go to school? The thought of it scares me, being around that many people again, people looking at me.

"I'll be there with you Tills. We all will.", he says as he places a finger under my chin and tilts my face so that he can look into my eyes.

His eyes are once again filled with concern but there's also something else there which I can't quite place.

But whatever it is, it has me nodding.

His face suddenly relaxes and he releases a content sigh, his eyes filling with relief.

We spend the rest of the day lazing around doing a lot of nothing. We watched movies and ate popcorn until Matt said that Mary-Lou wanted him home for dinner.

"Your invited if you'd like? To dinner I mean.", Matt says as he stands from the sofa.

I shake my head.

"No that's fine. I've spent way too much time with you anyway today. Gosh your so clingy.", I say jokingly as we walk towards the front door.

"Not like I want you there anyway your so annoying", Matt teases.

"Fuck off Matthew.", I say as he steps over the threshold out of my house, throwing up my middle finger.

"Fuck off Matilda.", he replies with his own middle finger in my face.

Rolling my eyes I go to shut the door but his hand shoots out, stopping me.

"Want me to pick you up tomorrow? For school I mean.", he asks, raising an eyebrow.

I shrug. "Sure but I'm not listening to your shitty music taste."

Rolling his eyes, he removes his hand from the door and starts to walk backwards away from the door. "Bye Tills", he says.

"Bye Matt", I reply, closing the door.
