The report Shepard presented was so devastating that, when the Shadow Broker leaked it to the press, such was the public pressure that neither the Illumined Primacy nor the Citadel Council could cover up the matter and were forced to take action.
Several members of the hanar government and its diplomatic corps were arrested on charges of high treason and collaboration with the terrorist organization Cerberus. Their image, already badly damaged after the failed coup attempt on the Citadel, was further tarnished when Diana Allers broadcast exclusively through the Alliance News Network all the details of the conspiracy being carried out by the organization to manufacture an arsenal of chemical weapons capable of annihilating virtually any non-human life form.
The shuttle flight back to the Normandy went by in complete silence. Everyone was immersed in their own thoughts, dejected by the atrocities they had witnessed in the last hours and by the stress and fatigue that the war was accumulating in their bodies. The result of the mission could be described as successful, due to the great amount of information recovered and the hard blow it had dealt to Cerberus by stripping them of one of their most advanced bases, but the price paid was high. Although they had managed to shoot down the ships that were trying to flee the secret base, they hadn't been able to prevent them from dropping several bombs on some of the drell dome cities along the way.
Feron decided to stay on Kahje with Khira to help as much as possible with the wounded, and with those infected by the bombs. There was a lot of work to do, many homes to rebuild, and many inhabitants to care for or comfort and accompany in their last moments. To their surprise, thanks to the skillful propaganda maneuvers managed from the shadows by both Shepard and Liara, they weren't going to be alone; a wave of solidarity spread throughout the galaxy and, despite the difficulties, numerous civilian ships showed up to provide supplies, medicines and anything else that might be needed.
Mission accomplished, one more on the road to final victory. That was the mantra Shepard kept repeating to herself over and over in her head. With no time for rest, their next destination awaited them. Thessia, the homeworld of the asari race, where Shepard had placed all her hopes to definitively unravel the true nature of the Catalyst, that mysterious component without which, according to all scientists, the Crucible could not work.
