Connie
They/Them
Words: 1246---
Connie has been acting strange for the past few days. Jenna noticed the behavioral change weeks ago, but it's only become more noticeable recently. She originally thought that maybe something happened between them and their family while she was away, but when visiting Connie seemed perfectly fine with everyone.
She crossed that one off the list and assumed that maybe something had happened at work.
Connie worked as a dentist's assistant which allowed for a lot of possibilities of something bad happening.
Maybe some kid bit them?
Jenna tried to ask about it but they shook their head and said something along the lines of "work's okay" and they both called it a day.
After that Jenna tried thinking outside the box. She knew that Connie was still acting normal around mutual friends so she didn't even bother to question that. So she went on to the next possibility.
"Did I do something?" The actress questioned after Connie canceled another hangout between the two. Jenna looked up at her friend with her arms crossed, a slightly hurt look on her face. You could easily miss it but they knew her too much for that to be possible.
Connie quickly shook their head before awkwardly reaching for the front door. Their hand came up short which gave Jenna enough time to maneuver passed her friend and block the door.
She then looked up at them with a raised eyebrow. "You're not going anywhere until you tell me what's up."
"Nothing is "up" Jenna-" Connie replied to which the girl only scoffed. They rolled their eyes at the reaction before attempting to move the short girl out of the way. "I will literally pick you up and throw you, Ortega."
"You're only one inch taller than me-" she laughed which caused the tension to defuse for a small moment. Connie couldn't help but laugh which in turn made Jenna smile.
"Rude..." They said before sighing. "Look. I really need to get going. There's an appointment and I can't be late."
"Liar."
Connie groaned before attempting to move Jenna again only for her to become dead weight. "Are you fuckin serious right now? Jenna move!" They argued to which she simply shook her head.
"You're off today and if I let you leave you're gonna cancel tons of other shit. I want to talk." The actress stood her ground causing Connie to realize she wasn't going to budge.
That left them no choice.
Sure the height difference wasn't all that different but they were still pretty strong. Connie picked up the girl, which caused a gasp, and took her over to the couch.
In an attempt to drop her on the cushions and make a run for it, Jenna had other plans. As they dropped her body she kept a hold on their neck which had Connie tumbling down into the couch with her.
With the way the couch was built, they both then rolled off and landed on the carpet with a loud thud.
"Ow"
"Damnit." Jenna grumbled before she sat up from her position and looked down at her friend. Connie was rubbing the back of their head that must've hit the ground. "That was your fault." The actress whispered.
Connie looked up at her before quickly looking away. Jenna raised her eyebrow at the reaction before reaching out and tilting their head to look back at her. There was a large blush forming on their face and their eyes were closed tightly.
Jenna furrowed her eyebrows in confusion before they raised in realization. Connie's been acting weird. The same kind of weird they would with past crushes and significant others.
Holy shit.
The girl quickly got off of them. She didn't want them to feel any more uncomfortable or embarrassed than they probably already were. Jenna didn't know if that was the right move once Connie covered their face and let out a deep breath.
The girl sat down next to them and let out a breath of her own. Finding out your crush likes you back is one hell of a thing. Jenna's liked Connie for so long but it never felt right to tell them.
She traveled far too much and knew about their issues with distance. She also knew about their commitment problems and knew that if she ever told them it would probably ruin the friendship they've built together.
It seems that Connie must've been thinking the same thing.
All the distance put between them wasn't because Jenna did something. It was to avoid their own feelings for their friend. Everything began to make sense.
"Can we talk about it now?" She said once Connie uncovered their face and simply looked up to the ceiling.
"I don't see why not." They whispered back before sitting up and facing Jenna. They both looked at each other in silence before Connie let out a sigh and repositioned themselves in a crisscross applesauce way.
The actress decided that she wasn't going to sugarcoat it. She probably would have if it wasn't for the past week feeling like literal torture thanks to her friend. "When?" She asked about when Connie started seeing her in a more than friendly kind of way.
Connie's blush only darkened before they let out an awkward laugh. "Um..." They began before looking away once again. "God this is embarrassing-"
"You're doing great" Jenna tried to reassure them with a small smile following close behind. They smiled back before the silence hit once again and their nerves came back. Jenna reached out and offered her hand out to them, they took it.
"Why are your hands always so fucking cold?" Connie teased causing Jenna to roll her eyes playfully. She then gave their hand a gentle squeeze and waited for them to finally tell her the details.
"Fuck okay... Fine." Connie cringed before squeezing back and avoiding eye contact once again. "R-Remember that party Olivia threw when you got back from Romania?"
Jenna nodded.
"Well uh... It was just a while since I saw you and it kind of just- it kinda just hit me, you know?" Connie mumbled before letting go of her hand and fidgeting with their shirt nervously. "When you were gone... It really really sucked and I thought it was just because we're so close but- but when I saw you..." They spoke again in the quiet living room before finally meeting Jenna's eyes. "I hate being away from you."
After the confession, Jenna exhaled a deep breath before standing up. Connie looked dejected at the motion until the girl reached out a hand for them to take.
"I hate being away from you too" the actress also confessed with a grin on her face. Connie looked up at her in adoration before a grin formed on their own face.
"You scared me, asshole!"
"There's no fun in not fucking with you, Connie." The twisted girl replied, the smile only growing. Connie took her hand and she pulled them up and onto their feet.
The two looked at each other nervously. "You still have an appointment to catch?" Jenna teased to which they rolled their eyes. She gave out a small laugh before letting go of their hand and placing it on their shoulder.
"No I don't think so" they replied before bringing their hand up to Jenna's chin and tilting her head up a bit.
"Good" she whispered before leaning up and connecting their lips together.
