Lydia POV
"Sloppy," I say looking at the one dancer going across the floor doing a kick sequence. The song Break My Soul by Beyonce blares through the stadium speakers. "You are sloppy. Your movements are sloppy," I say looking at her.
"I'm not saying that to be a bitch but I need you to show me that you are ready for this season. With that being said, go to the end of the line and try again," She nods and walks away.
"TURN YOUR FEET OUT!" I yelled watching the next girl go across the Chase Center floor.
"Cut the music," I say turning to my assistant coach. She nods and pauses the music. I take a deep breath before speaking to all the girls. "Ladies. You've had 2 weeks of a break but your technique is looking like 2 years."
"I'm not being a bitch to make you feel bad. I am doing this because I want my team to be the best of the best."
"The purpose of this combination is to work your core. Almost every one of you has fallen out of your tilts. Embarassing." I take off my shoes and my jacket and walk toward the center of the floor.
"This is what I want," I look over at the assistant coach and nod at her to start the music. "Break My Soul," replays again and I count myself in.
"5,6,7,8", I start the kick combination and every movement is sharp to the beat. Dance has been a part of my life since I was a young girl and I hated it. My mom forced me to join dance classes at a young age but once I got older I started to fall in love with the art. Accepting the job as the new head coach for the GSW dance team was a new start for me. I recently graduated college and looked for jobs all over until my cousin Klay told me about the opening of this position. Yes, Klay Thompson. Ideally teaching at a studio would have been nice, but I was extremely grateful for this position.
Once I finish the floor combination, I look over at the girls. "For all the mistakes you make in this next floor combo, you WILL be running laps after practice."
"Let's fucking go!"
----
"She's a bitch," One of the girls says warming up. "I miss coach Kelly." Another one says.
"Damn she that bad?" Dray asks taking a sip of his water. "Horrible," Another one grumbles.
All the girls knew that the team dynamic changed once Lydia came. She was strict. For the next month, the girls will be training vigorously for their upcoming performances for the preseason.
"How's it going?" Klay asked Lydia as they both walk into the Chase Center stadium. "Good. The girls on the other hand are horrible," Klay laughs and they both show security our badges.
"And I know they don't like me but I don't care," Lydia says looking at him. "You are the best of the best Lydia and you know what's best for them," Klay says and she smiles.
"Thanks, cuz!" They both head towards the arena and they see all the players and some of the dancers talking with one another. They all look over at them walking in and one of the dancers rolls her eyes.
"Keep rolling them, Ashley," Maya says grabbing her bag. Maya and Lydia had been best friends for years. Once Maya heard that Lydia was coming to be the head coach at GSW, she was extremely happy.
"Look who it is!" Coach Kerr says approaching Lydia and Klay. "Hey, Coach Kerr!" Lydia says pulling him into a hug.
"Ladies, start warming up. Maya lead warms up for me." Lydia says to all of them. "It's going good. I have 2 weeks to whip these girls into shape," Lydia says directing her attention back to Coach Kerr.
