For the next few days, Charlotte would bring me a daisy or dandelion from right outside... Then I would (try) and sing her to sleep. Since my parents passed away, 12 year-old me and 6 year-old Charlotte had been practically "living" in the hospital. Ben would come when he could... But sadly, that was not every day.
Once I was off the road to recovery, life was getting better, bit by bit...
Ben invited Charlotte and me to live in his house, Charlotte and I also made a friend named Sally Williams.
Story time, children:
I slumped down in the hospital bed as I stared into space... Charlotte was playing with her doll, and Ben was at home. He said he'd be back, but I had no idea when. Thoughts kept zooming in and out of my twisted and injured mind, until I decided to go to bed.
My eyelids slammed shut and stayed that way for a while. Bang. At first, I thought it was just Charlotte. Bang. Again and again, the bangs continued. Then someone shook my bed. I immediately thought it was Ben, so I jolted up and smiled. At first, I saw a little girl who, at the time, looked as if she were Charlotte. I thought she was, at first, until she spoke.
"Will you play with me?" Her voice trembling and somewhat demonic, her eyes filled with tears. She looked as if she were about to scream and throw a tantrum until...
"Why wouldn't I?" I said. She grinned from ear to ear when she pulled out two toys. A doll and a teddy bear.
"Who do you want to play with?" She asked. I REALLY didn't want to walk to my doom, so I asked her "Who do you want to play with?"
She immediately pointed to the blonde Barbie Doll and smiled.
"You can play with Mr. Bear," the girl said as she handed me the worn out teddy bear.
I smiled and gently grabbed him.
"May I ask, what's your name?" I said in my best friendly teddy bear expression.
"My name is Sally Williams."
"And mine is Alice O'Connor."
Sally smiled and we started to play a game with Mr. Bear and Barbie. We started out like we were going to school, and then talking to friends. We were having loads of fun.
"Hey Alice I bro-" Ben started. He froze and just stood there. Literally, he was white as a ghost and he looked as if he would scream like a girl and run out the door. Sally was about to attack, until I put my gloved hand on her shoulder. She took a deep breath before she spoke.
"Will you play with me?" She said in her most adorable voice. Ben smiled and sat down.
"Why didn't you just say so?" He said.
Sally pulled out a toy soldier and placed it in Ben's lap.
"What's your name?" He asked Sally.
"Sally." Her adorable voice was so happy, it could make even Mr. Scrooge smile!
We played school, and Sally "taught" us how to count with our fingers. BEN and I taught her how to play cards. Everything was going great. Eventually, when she woke up, Charlotte joined in the fun. Everything was great until I tell you this. Ben Drowned.
BEN I highly recommend don't read this next part O.O
-----------------------------------
I thought it would be great to go over to the lake by Ben's house, you know... to celebrate my recovery. I grabbed his hand and dragged him to the water. I was in some old clothes, just some shorts and a red T-Shirt... It felt great not having to wear my leather gloves... Ben was in his swimming trunks. Charlotte followed behind with her teddy bear, Timmy, and sat down with Sally, who brought Mr. Bear. They had scheduled a "tea party" while BEN and I swam.
How Adorable! I thought. I smiled as I playfully splashed Ben. He laughed as he splashed me as well. We swam around in the clear water for say... 10 minutes? That sounds right...
We hovered above a school of rainbow trout and they swam around us. We smiled at the amazing sight and talked about how adorable Sally and Charlotte were when they played with dolls. All of a sudden, Ben went under. He was under for ten seconds, until I decided to go after him.
Once I took a deep breath, I descended under the lake. I searched around for a little, until I saw a dark figure pulling Ben under. I decided to go after Ben to try and pry that... THING... off him. After a few seconds, I saw the figure push Ben under. He was fighting for his life... Just one breath could save him! Quickly using my legs and hands to swim toward him, something grabbed my leg. I nearly screamed until I looked into Ben's eyes. They were frightened... Like, when I woke up... that same face... I kicked the hand off and grasped Ben's. I wouldn't let go. Never ever.
That was my mistake... If it weren't for me, we'd both... we'd both make it out alive... I don't know what got into me... I mean... It's my FAULT that he drowned...
The figure holding Ben now grabbed me... We were both going to die... I dived my nails into the person's arm and it let go of me... Ben was clawing at it's eyes, but I watched in horror as it did the same to Ben... Except this time it clawed out one of his eyes... His beautiful... bright blue eyes... I could hear him scream in pain, but he looked at me. My red hair surrounded my face as I knew what Ben was doing. He grabbed my waist and pulled me up. No he didn't pull me up. He pushed me up... One figure was chasing me, but the other kept attacking Ben...
As I surfaced, I gasped for breath and tried to go after Ben... But he shook his head no. Since I was in tears, literally balling, Sally and Charlotte looked at me.
"Alice, are you ok?" Sally said as she handed me Mr. Bear.
"Sissy?" Charlotte joined in.
"Sweet hearts, I'm... ok... but Ben... He's... DROWNING!" I said in a quivering voice. I screamed and cried into Mr. Bear. Sally and Charlotte both hugged me.
"Is Ben coming back," asked Charlotte.
"Yeah! Is he coming back?" asked Sally. Both 6 year-olds had tears in their eyes.
"I'm sorry... Ben isn't coming back..."
A/N: I'm so sorry about the really late update... I just got really emotional
