The boy looked at him confused. "Yes?" Scar got a better look at the boy, he looked like a mess. Not that he looked any better himself. Scar didn't know what to say, but thankfully he didn't need to. "Mr. Furoe..." Grian immediately turned back around. "Sorry, teacher."
The lesson went on, but Grian couldn't get rid of the feeling of someone staring at the back of his neck. Not wanting to get detention again he simply ignored it and went back to his task. He couldn't focus, his mind always drifted back to his friend.
Feeling the hot tears in the corner of his eyes, he stood up and exited the classroom. He ran towards the bathrooms. He knew he could get in big trouble for that, but... Grian ran in and picked up a roll of toilet paper, he threw it in the trashcan. The rational part of his brain shouted to not do it, but his heart ached to feel the warmth. Grian pulled out his lighter and admired the flames. But it wasn't good enough, he needed more.
A strong shake pulled Scar out of his daydreams and into a mess that was left of the classroom. People screaming like someone was getting killed. Even then people wouldn't scream that much... It would simply be such an inconvenience. The sounds of the fire alarm and screaming hurt his ears.
Through all that shouting and ringing, he heard his teacher's orders. "Leave everything behind and slowly make your way towards the exit!" A bunch of people ran through that door as if their life depended on it, they had plenty of time. He was more worried about people on the 3rd floor.
Scar slowly made his way toward the exit. Seemingly without a care in the world, he walked to the nearest tree and sat down under it. After 4 minutes the firefighters arrived and dealt with the fire. Teachers sent the students home without wanting to risk anything, and everyone was ecstatic, but before that, they were let in to quickly grab their stuff.
Scar also felt happy about this situation. The weather was perfect for a long walk, it was a sunny and pretty warm day. He went in to take his backpack and left.
Not knowing what to do Scar headed towards his house. He couldn't yet call it home. That house still seemed distant and cold, not lived in.
Out of nowhere, Scar felt tired and weak, he remembered that he forgot to drink his coffee. Without a second thought, he headed to a coffee shop he and his dads saw the other day when they were exploring the city.
It was a bit of a walk, but Scar was sure the coffee will be worth it. He looked around and noticed how few people there were. It did make sense, it was only... Scar pulled out his phone to check the time. The clock on his cracked phone showed 8:50.
A lot of people had asked him why he won't change his phone, it wasn't like his parents were poor, they were quite the opposite. His dads had offered time and time again to change it, but he always denied it. But why? He wasn't sure himself. It might be the history of it. Or the fact that he gets attached to things way too easily.
The feeling of his feet getting wet brought him back to earth. Scar looked down and sighed, stepping out of yesterday's dirty rain puddle. Good thing that the café was just across the street. Scar noticed that there were no crosswalks near and stepped forwards a bit, just enough to see if there were any cars. There were none and Scar crossed the street.
Before stepping in Scar admired the architecture of the building. The café wasn't big, but it was well looked after, with big glass windows that were sparkly clean and a wooden signboard that was swaying in the wind.
The bell rang and Grian wasn't sure why, but he looked up. It was the same weird kid that kept staring at him. He looked at his friends. "It's that person I was telling you about." Pearl looked over her shoulder and back to Grian. "He seems nice. We should invite him to join us!" Grian looked at his sister petrified. "Keep your voice down! Plus he's... he seems weird."
Pearl shrugged her shoulders and took a sip of her hot, strawberry tea. "All I'm saying is that he just seems lonely to me... I'm sure he could use a friend or two."
"You won't guilt trip me into inviting him over here." Pearl took another sip. "Whatever you say."
Scar walked towards the door and opened it. He was greeted with a sound of a bell and whispers coming from one of the corners where a group of 4 people were sitting. One of the people was Grian and the other... The other person sitting next to Grian looked like Mumbo if he was more into fashion. He looked just like the person from his dreams. But he could be wrong, the memory of his dream was already slipping from his mind.
"Could I help you?" Scar realized that he once again was lost in his mind. "Sorry... Could I get a..." Scar quickly looked through all the coffee options. "Caramel latte?" The barista nodded and wrote it down. "That will be 3.75" Scar pulled out his wallet and handed the money to the barista. Before the barista could hand Scar the change he walked off. "Uh,- Sir? You forgot your change!" Scar turned back smiling nervously. "Sorry! Silly me..." The barista only smiled.
Scar took the change and walked off again, making sure he didn't forget anything this time. Scar found a nice spot to sit in, it was next to a big window, but if you looked through the window you wouldn't see him. The café had a very calm and homely atmosphere, Scar was pretty sure he will become a regular here.
Scar looked through the window and saw the sky getting darker. Scar took a deep breath and sighed. Most likely not only his shoes are going to be wet... Minutes passed and Scar was looking at the changing weather.
"Your coffee is ready, sir!" Scar stood up to take his coffee and began walking. Before he could reach the counter he accidentally bumped into someone. "I am so sorry! I should've watched where I was going. I'm so deeply sorry..." The boy in front of him laughed. "It's okay! And either way, it was my fault. I really shouldn't use my phone when walking!" Scar still felt guilty. "Are you okay?"
"Don't worry. I'm okay!" The blonde boy seemed full of energy. "I'm Jimmy by the way!" Jimmy outstretched his hand forward. Scar got a better look at the boy, he was wearing a cowboy outfit and a sheriff hat that was way too big for him. It was truly an interesting choice of clothing... Scar realized he was staring at Jimmy. "Sorry! I'm Scar." Scar took the boy's hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you, Scar! Hope to see you around!" With that, the blonde boy left. "Bye..."
Scar just stood there for a moment before remembering why he stood up in the first place. Scar took his coffee and sat back down in his place. He noticed little droplets of rain in the window, every second there were more and more of them. Scar pulled out his phone and rang the first contact. "Hey, dad... Will you be able to pick me up from that one café we passed last week? I had an interesting first day..."
