The sound of her mother playing piano carried through the air as Ivy tried to tiptoe past the music room and make her way to the kitchens.

“What are you doing?” She heard behind her.

Ivy let out a startled gasp and spun around to find her father standing with his arms crossed with an eyebrow raised. Ivy’s shoulder sagged in relief when she realized that it was only him.

“I’m trying to get to the kitchens without Mom seeing me.” Ivy said in a low tone, “I want a cookie but I’ve already had my share.”

“There’s cookies?” Her father's eyes widened. Ivy forgot that no one had told him, know one had told her either but Miss Maya had a soft spot for her. Ivy and her father, Flynn, had a bad habit of eating all of the baked sweets that Miss Maya makes.

“If you don’t rat me out to Mom I’ll grab you some.”

“Rat you out about what?” Ivy and her dad froze in their spots. They hadn’t heard the music stop and were busted.

“Uh, nothing.” Ivy smiled sweetly.

“Sure.” It was very obvious that the woman didn’t believe her but she didn’t question her, “Do you have everything ready?”

Ivy was set to go to the School for Good and Evil, while she was excited to go she had heard that the classes in the School of Good seemed a bit shallow. Especially for the girls. She had heard of a beautification class where they practiced smiling, which sounded ridiculous to her, she didn’t like being told to smile.

“Yup. My bags are packed and Miss Maya packed me a snack so that I won’t get home sick too quickly.”

“And Clover?” Clover was Ivy’s pet chameleon, more like her best friend, and is one of Pascal's children.

“She’s ready too.”

“Good.” Ivy’s mother, Rapunzel, gave her a warm smile before kissing her forehead. “Now go get dressed. You’ll be leaving soon.”

“I’m already dressed.” Ivy frowned as she looked down at her outfit. Her shirt and pants were covered in mud, there were leaves in her hair. “Besides, they give you time to get ready before orientation.”

“How did this even happen?” Flynn questioned as he looked over his daughter’s messy appearance.

“Well, Phillip and I were seeing how fast we could go down the trail and I didn’t see a branch so it, uh, knocked me off.” Ivy admitted sheepishly.

Phillip was Ivy’s favorite horse and when she was younger she always swore that he could talk. In a way he could, he was very expressive with his face in a way that reminded Ivy of Maximus. Phillip and Clover were Ivy’s best friends, she had other friends but they were her best. Clover and Philip had a love-hate relationship, Clover loves to mess with Phillip and Phillip hates it.

“How did you –” Flynn cut himself off, “You know, what? Nevermind.”

“Excuse me, Your Majesties.” A timid maid approached the three royals.

“Yes?” The older woman turned to the young maid with a patient smile.

“It’s almost time for the princess to go.”

“I’ll go get Clover.” Ivy then smiled at the young maid. “Thank you.”

The maid smiled back before she ran off to wherever else she was needed and Ivy sighed. She was going to miss her parents, Ivy couldn’t remember a time when she was away from home more than maybe a week. Now she was going to go to a school far away and her only company would be Clover, she wasn’t even sure if Clover was allowed to go.
