As they walk past the vicious flowers Agatha and Ivy notice Gregor stop and stare at it nervously.
“It’s okay, Gregor.” Agatha assured, “It can’t get you. You’re fine.”
“We’re right here with you, Gregor.” Ivy rubbed his back in an attempt to comfort him.
“I really hate this place.” The prince told them shakily before following the class.
“Quick, quick! Come on.” Yuba hurried them before stopping in front of a scarecrow with a pumpkin head holding a Scythe. “Ah, this is Yuba’s favorite part. The pumpkin patch.”
Ivy glanced at all the other pumpkins, making sure not to stand to close; remembering what Yuba told them about the flowers. Pretty can sometimes kill you.
“Benign by day, but by night a grisly horror world where reapers will hunt you down, drink your blood, and sell your limbs for spoils!”
Ivy heard Gregor sigh and notice that he was quite pale. She made sure to keep an eye on him, just in case.
“Reapers? What are those?” A girl quizzed.
“One of those.” Yuba gestured to the scarecrow.
“That’s just a scarecrow.” A prince laughs causing the others to join in.
“And I suppose pansies are just flowers.” The large bushes of pansy flowers all hissed and shrieked at the Evers causing them to all gasp and back away from them. Flinching as they jerked forward trying to chomp down on one of their limbs. “Remember, only the best Evil can disguise as Good.”
Gregor gasped as a flower got close causing him to take a step back and groan as a pansy behind him managed to bite his calf. “I’ve got to get out of here!”
“No, bad idea.” Agatha protested grabbing onto him.
“Let go of me!” Gregor jerked his arm out of her grip and began to run.
“Wait, Gregor!” Ivy called out as she and Agatha chased after him.
“You’ve already got two fails!” Agatha reminded him.
“Gregor! Gregor!”
“Gregor, you don’t know what they’ll do to you!” Agatha shouted.
“Come back!”
“I’ll be fine!” Gregor insisted.
Thunder rumbled and dark clouds began to swirl around the frightened prince as flashes of lightning could be seen. Ivy and Agatha stopped in their tracks as they watched in horror, Gregor became less visible as the storm got bigger until they could no longer see him. They could hear him groan and cry out in pain but could only watch helplessly.
“Help me!” Gregor shouted over the storm. “Agatha! Ivy!”
Tears gathered in Ivy’s eyes and Clover covered her own eyes with her tail, unable to watch the boy in pain. The storm suddenly stopped and as the clouds departed Gregor had disappeared, no longer standing where he once was.
“Gregor?” Agatha softly asked as her breath trembled.
Gregor was gone and he wasn’t coming back.
The class had ended sometime after and the girls now sat by the pond with Professor Dovey. Ivy sat next to Agatha numbly, to overwhelmed with sadness to cry; she instead wished she was training with the princes so that she could get her anger out with a sword and not with giggling girls who didn’t seem to care that one of their fellow Evers had disappeared only an hour or so ago.
