Chapter 8

Two weeks later

Maya and Quil was walking home from school. Thinks have gotten a little better but not by much. Maya was describing this new dessert she wanted to make when they got to Quil's house when the boy grabbed her arm forcing the girl to stop.

Maya glanced at him in confusion "Quil?!?"

"Get behind me." He demanded and pushed Maya behind his back.

Maya glanced around to see what had Quil's attention only to freeze at who was blocking the path.

Maya started to shake in fear as Sam Uley and Jared Cameron started walking toward them.

Sam glanced at Quil before his eyes shifted to Maya. He could not help but frown at the fear in her eyes. It frustrated him with how the kids in the tribe treated him and the others. They were protecting the tribe and they got treated like the monsters they hunted.

Sam turned his eyes back to Quil "How are you feeling Quil?"

Quil gulped and started to back away "F...fi...fine. I...I'm...Fine"

Sam nodded his head. Quil was anything but fine. If Sam had to roughly guess that Quil had maybe four to five days before he shifted into a wolf.

Sam tried to smile at the two but both looked absolutely terrified "Nice talking to you Quil. Goodbye Maya."

Sam and Jared shifted sideways to let the two kids pass. Quil grabbed Maya dragging her by Sam and Jared.

Once they both passed they started walking as quickly as possible. Sam and Jared listened into the conversation of the two as they walked.

Maya was gasping "He knows my name. He knows my name. He's going to kill me and hide my body in the woods to be eaten by animals. I will never be able to travel the world or have a family."

Quil glanced at her "What about me? He was checking up on me. I'm going to be drugged like the others and become a Uley cult member."

Maya stopped to stare at him "Told you he was coming for you"

Quil shook his head. "Come on let's get out of here."

The two continued walking until they disappeared down the road.

Sam shook his head. "What an overreactive imagination."

Jared shook his head "This ain't right Sam. Maya doesn't have any other friends. Can't we just swear her to secrecy?"

Sam shook his head. "No. You know the rules. Only shifters, imprints and parents approved by the council can know. She'll get over it Jared. Come let's go."

Sam turned and disappeared into the woods.

Jared watched him go shaking his head. "No. She won't"

He turned and followed Sam.

3 days later

Maya tried calling Quil but no answer. Quil had been fine two days ago but the Uley gang, including Sam Uley, had been watching them as they walked home from school.

It had now been three days and Quil had vanished.

Maya huffed before putting her shoes on. She was going to check on him to ease her mind. Maybe she was wrong and Sam really was not after Quil.
