chapter seventeen!

SAHANA'S TENDENCY TO NEVER be in the dorm, always out with friends or shopping in town would typically annoy Kamden, since it often left her to clean up the room by herself or practically die of boredom in her bed alone. But tonight, when Kamden got back and found it empty, it was a relief.

She took long strides to get over the piles of clothes that Sahana had left when ravenging for an outfit to wear, going over to her vanity and sitting down. She wiggled around in the chair, trying to get comfortable, or really, trying to distract herself from the stinging sensation that was pricking at the inner corners of her eyes, or the heavy lump that was quickly rising in her throat.

Tucking and then untucking her hair from behind her ears, Kamden watched her reflection carefully. Her cheeks were flushed and the whites of her eyes were growing more bloodshot by the minute. There was nothing more that her body ached for than to cry, but she had already cried over everything way too many times. So, she sucked in her cheeks and blinked the tears away, still staring into the mirror.

Just then, the door was flung open, the heavy doorknob colliding with the wall from the force.

Kamden whipped around, startled by the sudden commotion. Her shock and fear quickly faded when she saw that it was Wednesday who had barged in, her dark eyes shining with panic.

"What? What's wrong?" Kamden pushed herself to her feet, her tears that were just trying to spill over now long forgotten.

Wednesday opened and closed her mouth a few times, as if the message that she was so eager to deliver suddenly wouldn't come out of her mouth. "Tyler..." she said finally. "He's the Hyde."

Shooting out her hand to grab onto the vanity, so that she didn't fall over, Kamden felt all of the air rush out of her lungs. "How do you know?"

"He...kissed me." Again with the hesitation. "I had a vision of Dr. Kinbott's bloody massacre. Then I saw him...he was hovering over her, with...blood...on his face."

A weighted silence hung over the two girls, until Kamden dared to break it. "What are we going to do about it?"

The stone structure was cold against the back of Kamden's arms. Her knees were starting to ache from being crouched down for so long, but she didn't even dare to think about moving.

"And you're sure he's coming?" She whispered, turning her cheek against the cool surface to look at Wednesday, who was in the same hunched over position right beside her.

"He's coming." Wednesday answered.

"What if he knows that you know?" Kamden hissed.

"Shut up." Wednesday's finger was on the redhead's lips, forcing her to stop talking. Kamden hoped that she couldn't hear her wild heartbeat through her mouth.
