Evergreen hatched at the prison, and she didn't wanted to change that. Neither Queen Scarlet. The queen decided the dragonet can inherit her mothers sins, so she had to stay locked down. Or something like that.
Evergreen doesn't care as long as she was alone. Or mostly alone, considering that sometimes a guard checked at her and theese times give her an oppurtunity to yell at them. Nobody wanted to guard her too long, because nobody wanted to be called as Worm, Slug, or Lizard.

"Hello again, Rat" Evergreen snapped as a red guard walked to her cell, carrying a bowl of fish. The guard only glanced at her tired, and slipped in the bowl to her cage.
"These fish smells rotten already. Or is that you?" She taunted her.
"You will fight tomorrow in the arena" She answered with a little satisfaction in her voice. "Maybe we will get rid of you already"
"Maybe real rats will eat you alive tonight, Rat!" She yelled after her. She glanced at the fish, and turned away with disgust.
She has to fight tomorrow in the arena. She was three years old, and never fighted before. And the other prisoners were all full growned dragons. She was terrified, and tired, and didn't want to thought about the fight she has to win, in order to survive. She decided to try to sleep, and that was the first time when her first nightmare comes.
She was in darkness. She was alone, and that seemed a good thing. But as she getting comfortable, something changed. She started to fall, and she couldn't use her wings. She just falled and falled, and screamed, until she waked up trembling.
The next morning, she was taken to the arena. Her opponent was a green male seawing. He glanced at the dragonet, and he seemed desperate. He talked to the icewing dragonet, calming both of them. He said they didn't have to fight. He said they can lay down, and just wait until the queen will gave up. He said his names was Gill. The dragonet listened him, and decided to give his plan a try. It worked, they survived, but the queen was furious. And alone, back at her cell she realized how defenseless she was.

She spent her days with training and sleeping, and watching the other prisoners, learning what they can do.
And the next time she get to the arena, she was a strong fighter, ready to use any of her power in order to survive. She was ready to kill.
And she had to, several times. She gets some scars. Once an other icewing clawed her underbelly with his sharps claws. In exchange, she broke his spikes to pieces before finished with him.
Another time, a seawing broke her nose with her powerful tail. Evergreen glanced at her opponent full of hatred, but the blood on her nose spoiled the effect a little. She charged the seawing with full speed, and meanwhile she inhaled and working up a gust of frostbreath, then send it to the other dragon. She tried to jump away, but she was too slow, and it hit her face and one of her wing. She screamed until her eyes froze completely, her wing broke several places, and when she goes silent, she was dead.
After the fight, a skywing doctor came to her, to fix her nose and stop the bleeding. Not a kind one. She arrived with a troop of guards, and while they hold her down, the doctor broke her nose again. She said, to heal properly, but she laughed at the others meanwhile. It hurted more than the first time, when the adrelalin give her strange. She hated doctor since that day, and called them all Butchers.
After that battle, Evergreen was more careful, and let her opponents no possibility to hurt her. She thought she has more than enough scars on her green scales, but she didn't even noticed some of them when she got them. For example on her left ear was a scar, but she had no idea when or who give that to her.
She had more opponent than she could count, but she had what she must to survive. She was a reason to live, and she believed she will find that reason one day. She defeated and killed seawings after icewings, and sometimes traitor or dissapointing skywings, and sandwings who chosed the wrong queen to support. She becamed the second deadliest dragon in the sky palace after Peril, but this far, the queen didn't let the two of them to fight. She grown up and grown stronger in the prison and in the areana. And her personality was meaner day after day, especially considering that she never was a kind dragon. She waited for a day to yell the queen, but Scarlet had never comed. Usually there were no guards at her cell, so she was alone and in silence, apart from the other prisoners. They tried to speak to her sometimes, but she didn't answered them. She thought it will weakens her if she know the others, and has to fight with them later.

The queen and the crowd watched her in the arena with satisfaction but she didn't enjoyed this. She didn't enjoyed this life, the killing. She hated the underground prison, which was wet, and too cold. She had never complained though. She was an icewing who wanted warm, sun in her green scales, wanted to swim, and hunt free. Wanted things she had never had a chance to try. She wasn't some kind of treasure or weird thing, she was a living, feeling person with dreams and nightmares. Especially with nightmares. The one when she falled into the dark comes night after night, and she couldn't do anything about it. There was another, when her scales freeze until she couldn move, and she wokes up always shivering. There was no way to defeat or run from the nightmares. She slept as little as possible, and when she was awake she daydreamed a life outside the prison. A life with another dragon in it maybe. Or alone, it could be fine by her. But she hardened her heart, because these things wouldn't help her survive until that day she could really live like this.
