Jay sat at the breakfast table, his fork idly pushing around the remnants of his half-eaten meal. His mind was elsewhere, lost in a labyrinth of thoughts, his brow furrowed in contemplation. He glanced at his phone, the screen illuminating with each incoming call to Jake, but each attempt was futile as Jake remained out of reach. Jay sighed, setting his phone down and hoping for a reply to his text.

With a resigned shrug, he pushed back his chair and rose to tackle the morning chores. The clinking of dishes being washed served as a background melody to his racing thoughts. Soon, Jay emerged from his kitchen, dressed in his work attire, ready to face the day ahead.

Stepping out into the crisp morning air, Jay made his way to his car, the engine purring to life as he settled into the driver's seat. As the miles passed by, Jay's frustration grew, his fingers tapping impatiently on the steering wheel as he made yet another attempt to reach Jake. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the call connected.

"Jake," Jay said, relief flooding his voice as he finally heard his friend's familiar tone on the other end of the line.

Jake's voice echoed through the receiver. "Yo, Jay! What's up, my man?"

Jay let out a sigh, his voice heavy with frustration. "Hey, Jake. I need to talk to you about something serious."

There was a pause on the other end of the line before Jake responded, his tone suddenly serious. "Uh oh, serious Jay? This must be big. What's going on?"

Jay took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to reveal. "It's about my girlfriend, Jake."

There was a moment of silence before Jake burst into laughter, his voice echoing with amusement. "Oh man, Jay! You and your luck with women. What did she do this time? Steal your Xbox?"

Despite himself, Jay couldn't help but chuckle at Jake's irreverent humor. "No, it's not like that, Jake. She... she has disappeared. And my father's behind all of this."

The laughter died down as Jake's tone sobered. "Wait, seriously? Like, he wiped her out of your life?"

"Yeah, something like that," Jay replied, his voice tinged with frustration. "I need your help, Jake. I need to find out the truth about her."

Jake let out a dramatic sigh, his voice dripping with mock sympathy. "Ah, poor Jay. Always finds himself knee-deep in drama. Alright, buddy, I'll do some digging. But if I find out she's been playing you, you owe me big time, got it?"

Jay rolled his eyes, unable to suppress a grin at Jake's antics. "Yeah, yeah, I got it. Thanks, Jake. I owe you one." With that, they said their goodbyes, and Jay was left alone with his thoughts once more. Despite the gravity of the situation, he couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope.

Later that afternoon, Jay sat at his desk in his office, his fingers tapping impatiently on the keyboard as he waited for his game friend Xuehun to come online. Jay was eager to dive into the virtual world and escape the monotony of his workday.

But as the minutes ticked by, there was no sign of Xuehun. Jay frowned, his excitement waning as he refreshed his chat window again and again, hoping for a reply that never came.

"What happened to her?" Jay muttered to himself, his brows furrowing in concern. Xuehun was usually punctual, never one to leave him hanging like this.

Just then, Lara's message popped up on his screen.

[She might be busy with her life]

Jay nodded in agreement, grateful for Lara's understanding. "Yeah, you're probably right, but stop popping up in my devices," he replied, trying to shake off his disappointment and focus on his work.
