A/N: consider this story your new years gift✨

Elise drew on the floor continuously. I gave up on trying to stop her. I tried giving her paper, but when she finished she went straight back to drawing on the floor.

"Elise please," I sighed only to be given silent treatment. Honestly I preferred silence over complaining as she did to M*ri.

"Y/N?" M*ri's voice echoed in the room. I stood up my from the floor next to Elise and turned to his desk.

" I need to attend to something out of the office. I will take Elise with me. You don't mind taking care of my deskwork would you?" The words left his tongue like a snake as he spoke. He stood up and walked in mine and Elise's direction.
"Understood sir," I knew I didn't have a real choice.

M*ri and Elise are long gone now. I am alone standing behind m*ri's desk leaning into the files.
"Y/N?" A familiar voice drew closer to me.
"Hm?" I picked the papers up and started to slide them back into their file.

"Why are you here, again?" The voice said in it's normal harsh tone. I knew who it was, me and him have met 1 too many times while I've worked here. Or that's what M*ri says. Ryūnosuke Akutagawa. I personally find him fascinating. I don't understand why M*ri doesn't want us to be acquainted. Another mystery about my own life M*ri refused to tell me.

"Doing my job. What brings you here?" I asked Akutagawa while neatly stacking the papers.

"I was going to hand in a report," akutagawa responds. As I reach the cabinets.

Finally finding the correct position I placed the files in the cabinet.

"Lay your report on the desk, then you are excused," I sighed. I sat in the chair and leaned back into the papers remaining on the desk.

Akutagawa didn't leave like I said. I didn't assign missions without M*ri that's the one thing I always screwed up on. But he didn't seem to be waiting for a mission. I looked up at him and he contently stood at the side of the desk watching out the window. I hadn't even seen him move from his position in front of the desk.

During my time I've been here I developed a silent friendship with akutagawa. Well I think I did. We never spoke about anything besides handing in and assigning things. But after he would always stay with me before leaving. Yet we still never had any other form of conversation.

I found it cute, but I know they would kill me if I mentioned it. I feel safe when he's around. He just can't see him as a naturally hateful person. Especially after seeing him with dazai in the past.

"Akutagawa," M*ri's voice called in a demanding tone. Akutagawa took the hint and left the room as I stood from the desk.

"You just can't help yourself can you? It wouldn't be a problem if you were a little younger..." M*ri leaned over me. I wasn't exactly sure what he was implying. Well I knew. I hate to admit that.

I turned away in disgust and walked to where akutagawa was before. I sat on the window seal and waited for instructions.

After a long while of silence a word was finally said.
"What do you find so interesting about that boy? He's simply a dog the Mafia owns," m*ri's amused smile grew as I looked in his direction. Refusing to lie to him I gave a honest response. He would know if I was lying.

"Everything you can't see," I close my eyes as my voice softens.

"Hm?" M*ri hums clearly asking for more Intel on my thoughts.

"His facade is quiet and dark. There's no way there isn't more to him. The other members all express themselves emotionally sometimes. Akutagawa always has a cold tone to him," I smile to myself.

"He isn't someone for you to learn from. My dear y/n he's one of the worse members of the Mafia, we can't have a sweet girl like you mixed up with him," m*ri says softening his words. Sweet girl?

I knew he was hiding something and I plan to find what it is. For now I had to be m*ri's loyal pet. That's as close as I'm going to get now. This was a chance to do something without my ability.

No matter how m*ri trys to change my mind. The sense of security you don't always feel in the Mafia always came from akutagawa. I wanted to know why I felt that way with him. He is a made murderer. Not a walking lullaby.

Why the silent friendship I made with him means so much to me if I barely know him.

A/N: I honestly don't know how I'm gonna include the ability into this. I don't remember my thought process.
