Fain would I feel an union in thy fate,
Fain would I seek to draw an Omen fair
From this connection in our Earthly date.

"I am going to miss you." Oscar said quietly, after he'd finished scanning the platform to make sure no one was looking at him and Edmund. Thankfully, there weren't a lot of people travelling to Cambridge on a Sunday morning. "Seriously."

"Oh, please." Edmund smiled a little, lifting his hand up to run through his hair- just for a moment. A moment was all they had. "You'll find some irresistible fellow over at uni, and forget all about me."

"I shall not-"

"Oh, pretty boy, you will."

"I'm not going to forget you, Pevensie." He spoke with a little laugh, but he was actually dead serious. "You were one of the few half-decent players on the team."

"Fuck off, I've had enough of you!" He replied, laughing as he pretended to shove him away.
But Oscar caught his hand, and pulled him closer, and all pretences faded.
Though he was glad about the touch, he looked in panic to around them- what if someone saw!?
"Os-"

He knew the danger of being too close in public, but he kept on stubbornly, "I shan't let you go until you tell me whether you'll miss me, too."

"Of course I'll miss you." Edmund rolled his eyes, and then the older boy finally dropped his hand. "These past few months- mate, I can't remember the last time I felt that I was capable of feeling more than just angst."
He could, though. He could remember it- but that had been back in another world, back home, somewhere he'd never return to, with people who were mostly dead.

"I didn't think I could ever have this, you know." Oscar said, after a minute or two of silence. But it had been good silence- a comfortable one. "I thought it was just me, and I was- I was destined to be alone forever, with only my right hand as company."

"I'm glad I proved you wrong. You're not alone, Os. There's more of us out there than you think." He told him- and he wished he could kiss him, one last time.
Because they weren't just saying goodbye for he was off to Cambridge, and then to Cardiff in two weeks- but because they were breaking up.
"And I'd like to think I'm much better than your right hand."

"No contest there." Oscar laughed again- Edmund made him laugh more than anyone he had ever known.

There was a horn suddenly, and the two boys whipped around in sudden panic- had they lost track of time?

But it was the final-call horn for another train, and not the one he would be boarding at the last possible moment.

He looked back at Edmund, "Sorry you had to miss church to see me off."

"It's alright," He shrugged, "my soul won't be damned just because I missed church one Sunday."
If it wasn't already damned, of course.
"Besides, Susan won't be there today, either, so it's fine."

"Oh, where is she?"

"She and Sanya are going to Birmingham to meet up with a couple of Sanya's friends." Edmund would have said their names, but he doubted that Oscar cared. "They were supposed to meet in London, but one of the friends lives in Manchester, and that's too far- so they settled for somewhere halfway. Susan hasn't actually left yet, but she needed a good couple of hours to get ready, so she got a pass to miss church."
He didn't say that Susan missed church more than she attended, nowadays. He didn't think it was his place to say.
