On the next day to college I got myself prepared with the smart pen recorder my mom gifted me to capture everything I can about the mysterious biker. I clipped the pen carefully in my front shirt pocket and covered it with my long hair almost feeling like a spy. I went an hour early to walk around the college and somehow get an opportunity to bump into her. The idea sounded silly but I couldn't find a better way. After wandering alone for a good forty minutes and witnessing over thousand students except the one I'm looking for I decided to go to my class and continue the hunt right after class.
It was my first literature lecture and I was loving every minute of it for it was my favorite subject at school. The lecturer, Miss Jade, was a nice lady wearing spectacles and a bright big smile. I was deeply indulged in the lecture and completely forgot everything about the mystery girl and my great mission to reveal her identity. Miss Jade maintained an interactive session where students were encouraged to voice their own perspectives on literary works. It allowed me to express myself without being judged and also it taught me to accept different opinions without being judgemental. I personally liked the explanation given by a girl named Clara on a controversial poem. After class the students started their way towards the canteen in a bunch of twos and threes. That's when I realized I still haven't made any friends. Suddenly i felt all alone in that busy crowd. Thanks to Clara, that feeling didn't last long.
"Hey girl!" Someone shouted from behind. I just kept on walking towards the canteen not wanting to turn and feel embarrassed if it was not for me. "Hey you long hair! You left your bottle at class" came the same voice. It suddenly occurred to me that I forgot to pack my water bottle and quickly turned to see Clara waving the bottle my way. I quickly went up to her and collected it with an awkward "thankyou." "No worries, what's your name?" She asked for which I replied "Long hair" with a wink. My hair was the only thing I loved most in me and I took pride in it. "Lovely name!" She grinned, and added "wanna join us for a bite in the canteen?" gesturing at her friends waiting for her in the corridor. "Sure, Clara" said me to see the tiny surprise in her face for knowing her. We headed to the canteen while Clara introduced her friends Jessica and Stephanie to me. "And this is Ms. Long Hair, her excellency" she informed her friends. "Of course! Finally a competition to Rapunzel" Stephanie mocked.
We gradually got along well and I felt comfortable with them. I decided to hang out with them from that day onwards. After a few hours of idling and chatting it was time to bid goodbye for the day. Clara asked for my contact number so we can keep in touch. "Can the mystery girl reveal her real name now for me to save it?" She teased. That's when I remembered I've forgotten all about hunting down the actual mystery girl. I grabbed her phone, entered my number, saved it with my name and thrusted the phone back into her hand. "I'll see y'all tomorrow" I shouted over my shoulder while hurrying back to that elevator i first saw the biker hoping she'd come that way after her class. Alas, even after waiting until all the classes left, i couldn't find her. "She must've left earlier" i said to myself and with all the disappointment I went home.
When I was about to fall asleep that night my phone beeped to notify a text from an unknown number. I wished it to somehow be the biker girl until the text read "Hey Amelia! What got into you all of a sudden in the evening?" And the next text bubble read "you literally ran away like a Cinderella in the ball realizing her time is over." It was Clara checking up on me. I texted back saying I forgot to meet someone and went back to sleep.
With the same enthusiasm as yesterday, I woke early, got dressed and set off to college feeling like a child spy. I searched and searched for the sight of her and returned back to class disappointed and tired. The feeling that she must have been just a visitor kept growing. After a whole week passed without a trace of her I confirmed to myself she was merely a visitor and I have been a fool the past few days. I started to forget all about her and concentrated fully on my new life and studies. I grew to love the lessons and the lecturers and even managed to set a good impression of me to them. My new friend gang took me to nearby places around college and I had so much fun with them. We decided to work together on our studies as well. "I'm really glad i ended up with you guys. I was worrying if I would ever be able to make friends my type being an introvert" I had said to them. "You don't look like an introvert" Jessica said. "Of course. You look like a dreamy princess who came here in search of her prince" teased Stephanie as always. "I almost forgot to ask, didn't you find him yet?" Clara added. I got furious at this. "I came here to follow my dream of becoming a successful business woman! Not a stupid prince" I rolled my eyes at them. "Whoa whoa easy there Amy, I was just referring to that person you were trying to find for the past few days" Clara said. "That's a girl i tried to find, because I felt like I knew her. But turns out I'm wrong" I replied. "Oh yeah that happens, the other day I mistook an old lady at the supermarket for my aunt Marge" Clara tried to divert the conversation. That's what I liked most about Clara. She understands when someone feels uneasy about something and do what needs to be done to cool the air. She'd do great in the HR field, i said to myself. "Oh enough about old ladies, there's a food stall fundraiser happening tomorrow to help the children in the orphanage. One of the seniors told me. Since it's a holiday for us what do y'all say?" Jessica, the soft hearted girl said. Stephanie was the first to refuse the invitation, obviously. The second was me, "it's Saturday! I need to sleep. Besides, running a food stall in this hot weather will be so boring." "Oh c'mon you guys, we don't have to run the stalls. Those children are coming to spend the day at college! We can play with them and keep them company" Jessica pleaded. "That sounds like fun for me" clara added. "Why would you want to miss the opportunity of making someone happy?" She directed that to me and for some reason it went straight to my heart. "If it would make them happy then I'm in" I smiled. "Oh you mother Theresas, what's fun in babysitting some stubborn kids!" Complained Stephanie. "C'mon Steph, you're gonna love it" Jessica laughed and we all grinned at her frowning face. That was a week well spent with them.
