The Blackout

I woke to the sound of my phone ringing. It was Jessica making sure I'm wide awake and attending college. I lazily did my morning duties, got dressed in a baby pink frock... Well yeah. I just thought it'd be a good idea to visit the children in a baby color. As usual I wore my hair down and adjusted the baby hair on my hairline to look cuter. I also grabbed some cute soft toys for the kids and stuffed it in my bag. "Maybe I like kids after all" i laughed to myself and set off to college.

It was late when we arrived there. The college grounds almost looked like a little kindergarten with little kids running around. There were food tents put up by college students which sold varieties of snacks and drinks. There was also a toy stall and a Harry Potter themed stall which sold quills, old diaries, ink bottles and whatnot. I immediately wanted to check out that store as soon as Clara pointed it out to me. She knows I'm a potterhead. But that place was almost hidden by the crowd around it and we decided to hit that spot later. We bought some fruit drinks and headed to have a chat with the kids. I wasn't a person who enjoyed noise and crowds but the site of chubby cheeked kids warmed my heart. They were running along like little angels shouting and laughing. There is always a beautiful kind of peace when kids are around. I was grinning at two kids sitting on a stone blowing soap bubbles at us when I felt the hem of my frock being pulled. I turned around to witness the cutest angel of the lot. With a goldilocks hair and rosy cheeks, a little four year old was smiling shyly at me. "Hellow" she said with a voice sweeter than honey. "Aww hey there cutest pie" said I, bending down to her and poking that fat cheeks. "I like your hair" she said, running her tiny hands through my hair. I blushed like a little girl. Compliments from little ones always made my day. "Only hers?" Stephanie jumped before I could mouth a thankyou. The innocent girl smiled shyly at her tilting her head to a side. The four of us surrounded her and adored her pretty self trying to make a conversation. She was too shy to reply us but her smile was worthy enough. I opened my bag and gave her the soft toys I bought. "It's for you and your friends" I said. "But won't they miss you" she asked, happily hugging them. "They deserve to live with a princess like you" i assured her and she ran with it to show her friends. "Look who's being the actual mother Theresa now" it was Jessica. "Even i didn't think of bringing something to them" she added. "Well we can buy them something from the stalls here. Besides, if it wasn't for you we wouldn't have been here. So keep your credits, girl!" I said. "I knowww, omg why are you being so nice today?" She laughed. "Oh the Harry Potter stall seems empty now. You wanna go?" asked Clara. "Yesss" I jumped up, and hurried towards it before another gang consumes the stall only to bump into Miss Jade. "Oh it's you Amelia! Hey I'm in a rush to a meeting. Can you handover this file to Arry. You'll find her in the cabin beside my office" she finished, thrusting the file into my hands and hurried away not waiting for my reply. I looked bewildered at Clara and she, at me. "Who's Arry?" She asked as if I knew. "How am I supposed to know? Come with me" i said pulling her along while Stephanie and Jessica headed towards the inviting little Harry Potter stall.

"Whom will you give this to if you don't know" she continued. "Oh we'll figure it out" I said even though I was a bit scared to find someone unknown in a place unknown being an introvert. "Act cool, Amy. It's just a matter of a minute" i said to myself. I just have to say "Miss Jade asked me to give this to you" i rehearsed inside my head. When we reached Miss Jade's office my heart started to act like a butterfly. "It must be that cabin in the corner" Clara pointed. I adjusted my hair and dress and with all the courage my soul could offer, i pushed open the glass door.

I was expecting just one person, but inside there were like ten and that made my butterfly heart do summersaults. Half of them turned to look at me as if to ask why I was there and the other half didn't even care. How do you find Arry here? My brain questioned me when it was supposed to give answers! With a trembling voice I spoke out

"Arry?"

And the rest of the heads which were minding their own businesses turned to look at me. "Great! Are all of these people named the same?" My brain questioned me again.

"Yes?" Came a voice from the girl hidden behind the computer. I was relieved to have finally found the target. With a sigh of relief i took a step forward towards her while she decided to tilt her head away from the computer to look at me. She saw me but most importantly, I saw her.

Yeah. My poor brain was drawn into a hurricane. For it was the mystery girl I was hopelessly looking for in the past week. Now I forgot the phrase I had memorized all the way to the cabin and stood their frozen, innocently clutching the file in my hands like my dear life lied inside it.
She smiled at me. And that second passed like an hour to me. I saw her lips turning into that familiar curve and her eyes becoming soft and kind, the kindest pair of eyes I ever met, to give me that smile. It took me somewhere deep i wanted to travel but suddenly there was a flash of lighting and everything turned black.

Or, eigengrau.
