Tails fiddled with his hands. He hated the feeling of his palms being sweaty and his non robotic tail twitching at random intervals. Tails wanted to sit up and leave the room immediately.
But he couldn't, he owed Sonic this. He listened to Sonic ramble on one of his past adventures which he dubbed as 'The' adventure. Any other time Tails would listen to Sonic tell a tale, he would have no problem listening.
Now. He's wiggling around his seat and scoping the room, looking for any chance to leave. A feeling would ache in his stomach but Tails pushed it down.
Instead of giving a slight giggle go Sonic. Tails looked over to his shoulder. Dark hands of his shame held him down in his place. Making him listen to Sonic's tale and force him with the reality that he's lying to his first friend.
"And that is how I, Sonic The Hedgehog, had defeated all of Eggman's troops!!!" Sonic leaned forward and brought up his hand. He was whispering to him. "And if knuckles tells you anything different, he's just a liar."
Tails just nodded. Not trusting his voice.
"Tails? Is something up with you today?" Sonic suddenly asked.
"What?!" Tails spluttered out. His fur beginning to stick up. Even his metal tail gave a 'clink' as it hit the chair he was on. "Something up? Ha- just the ceiling!!"
Tails' nervous laughter did not assure Sonic in the slightest. And Tails knows it. The way his green eyes looked over him trying to figure out what was wrong with him. (A lot of things honestly.)
Something scorching hot touched his leg. Tails eyes darted to it and came face to face with those dark, looming hands. Shame and disgust radiating off them. The pit in his stomach grew even more.
Suddenly, Sonic's own hand placed itself on his shoulder. This one was comforting. Safe. It contrasted the ones on his leg.
"Bud. You know you can tell me anything." Sonic said. His voice is soft and reassuring. It made Tails believe that if he were ever in danger, Sonic would swoop in and protect him.
Of course he will. Sonic promised him.
And that promise made Tails feel even worse. Sonic would risk himself for Tails and all the stupid freak does in return is lie to him. That hard drive should be shown to him. The information in there.... No. Sonic would hate him. But his words still rang.
"A-anything?" Tails whispered out. Still not making eye contact with his blue friend. His eyes still linger on the hands gripping his legs. The heat begins to simmer down at the prospect of maybe... maybe Sonic won't hate him after figuring out what he had.
Before Sonic could properly respond, Amy ran inside. Her steps have a more peppy feel. And most importantly, she had a huge smile spread around her face.
"Sonic! We- We have a chance!" She said, Stuttering out the words. (Tails guessed it was because of the excitement."
"Elaborate. Please, ames?"
Amy bounced a little and Sonic placed his arms on her shoulder to attempt to calm her. If Sonic were being honest, he'd say he liked seeing this side of Amy. One where she's smiling and happy. He let out a smile of his own. What can he say? Her smile was contagious.
"Rouge! She finally cracked a way into eggman's base and- Tails gadget located the last chaos emerald!!" Now. This was something to get excited about.
"This. This is incredible! Have you already sorted a plan out? Should we head for the chaos emerald first or get the ones in eggman's lair?" Sonic asked.
"No. We're doing something even better." Amy's smile widened. Instead of it looking like a smile of excitement, it radiated as one of mischief. "The resistance is aiming to get all of them at once."
