Hope Was Built

Mobians rushed inside the building before immediately rushing out. From the one day Tails had stayed in the HQ, he's learned 2 things. One the resistance was always moving and two they hated him. Sonic says that the rest of the group will eventually warm up to him. Tails doesn't believe him.

Tails was never too invested in the resistance in the past. He was too busy with.... he doesn't remember what. He shakes his head and tries to push the thought away.

The fox instead decided to put his whole attention on the resistance. He was curious about what they actually do. Tails would love to ask any of the mobians that accompany him in the main room, but as he looked around he was surrounded by vacant spots. Every resistance member had made it their personal mission to stay far away from him as possible. He wished he could return to his new room, but unfortunately Knuckles was busy removing all the furniture from the room. Sonic was sent on a mission searching for an item. Tails wasn't too sure what he was even looking for.

Leaving Tails to stay in the Main room for the time being. He let out a small sigh.

"Sonic's been gone for an hour and you're already missing him, that attachment to the hip I see?"

His ears perked up and he picked his head up to face the person who was brave enough to talk to him. His eyes laid upon a bat. From the looks of it, she didn't seem one bit terrified of him. (Tails was relieved.)

"Brave." Tails wasn't fully aware he had spoken. He was more interested in the fact that someone had actually come up to him. A fit of laughter escaped the bats lips.

"Gee- I'm flattered! Unlike all these chumps I'm not afraid of your kind. Especially not you. From the looks of it you're only a kid and only have 2 tails. Not the strongest of the bunch~"

Tails ears flattened on his head. "I may be a kid but I'm very capable!" He tried to defend himself, but the bat just took one look at him before giggling once more.

"Never said you weren't capable. After all, you're our new and only tech person." She held out her hand for a handshake. "The name Rouge. I'm the Queen of Thieves."

Tails takes a look at the hand before hesitantly shaking her hand. "I'm Tails... Uhhh.. don't really have a title, does kitsune count?" He said a bit embarrassed. Luckily Rouge didn't hold it against him, instead she just smiled.

"Hmmm- I guess we'll need to come up with one." She began to brainstorm ideas for the fox. Tails just patiently waited. "Wait. I have a question. Can your gadgets hypothetically be used to... 'borrow'.... items?"

Tails tilted his head to the side. The question was rather strange but he thought nothing much of it. "I mean yeah... I've made inventions that can be used for stealth purposes."

The fox guessed that was the correct thing to say as Rouge lit up. She clapped her hands together before pointing at him. Tails felt his ears drop again as he assumed she was going to insult him.

"That's it! You'll be my protégé of sorts!!! You're now the prince of thieves."

"Prince?! Wait!!! You're going to make me steal from people?!"

"I'd like to say you're going to borrow from people. Either way! It'll be fun. With your smarts and my skills, we'll be unstoppable."

Tails thought about the offer. Rouge didn't seem all too bad and she was the only one to come up and talk to him. There was an opportunity to make one new friend and Tails wasn't going to waste it.

"Alright! I'm Tails, the Prince of Thieves. But what are we stealing?" They were in a war after all. Most jewels were in possession of Eggman and others were plainly destroyed.
