"Begin!" The referee exclaimed.
Letheia watched as Yuno's friend's opponent flipped open his grimoire and his magic formed some sort of ball with cannons around him.
Letheia thought that it was quite a good start off for beginners like them with little to no battle experience before. It was a good balance of both offence and defense and it could be used to measure the opponent's strength. Then he'd be able to adjust and think of his next move after evaluating his opponent.
Letheia of course wasn't a seer like her mother was so she didn't know why she thought that it was going to happen. It didn't, of course, as what happened next wasn't something she expected although she probably should have considering that the guy was going up against Yuno's rival.
No, what happened next was something she would have missed if she blinked at that very moment.
Letheia watched Yuno's friend pull out a giant rusty sword, dash forward at an unimaginable speed, and with great force that had Letheia wincing, Yuno's friend sliced open his opponent's defense and knocked him out in one strike.
Letheia gaped when she saw Yuno's friend's opponent on the ground convulsing and foaming at the mouth with the ground below him cracked from the force that hit him.
Letheia turned to the guy beside her, who was smiling smugly, in incredulity. "Why do you look like you're the one who just won, and does your hometown just naturally spawn strong mages?"
Yuno shook his head. "No, we just work harder than most."
Letheia accepted that and turned back just in time to hear what Yuno's friend had to say.
"I'm not joining the Magic Knights so I can have a good time and avoid working hard. I'm here to work my butt off and become the Wizard King!"
Letheia's eyes widened and her mind briefly went to the blonde, purple-eyed man that she only heard stories about from her educator, Ms. Hera. The only man known to have the power to control time. She then turned to look at the person beside her only to see the same glint in his eyes that was on his friend only seconds ago.
'Wizard King, huh?' She thought.
She honestly admired the fact that they looked so determined to reach such big dreams, but others didn't seem to agree with her as the chatter started.
"Is he stupid?"
"What the heck is that peasant from the boonies saying?"
"Must be embarrassing being a completely delusional idiot."
She heard about the prejudice from Sir Robain on the way here, but she didn't think it was to this extreme. Maybe she didn't get it like some of them did as she hadn't grew up with these mindsets but she thought that even if she did, she would still think it was ridiculous to judge people from where they came from and their class - or just judging people in general.
Noticing that her mood was dampening from all these close-minded idiots, she shook her head and turned to Yuno. "Do you want to go next?"
Yuno nodded and they both walked forward when the referee called for the next pair. Needless to say, the chatter started up again.
"Hey, isn't that the guy who received a four-leaf grimoire?"
"Woah! Are you serious? A four-leaf grimoire?"
"Yeah, but I heard he's from the boonies."
"Who's that girl? She looks like a noble."
"She probably is. I don't know which family she's from but she's going to wipe the field with that peasant. No matter how good of a grimoire you get, you're still no match with the enormous amount of mana us nobles possess."
