She didn't expect to be fighting so soon in her journey though.
"I thought we were already in after passing the exams." Letheia inquired as she sat beside Vanessa on a couch outside where they were watching Asta's initiation while she waited for hers' as well.
"Oh, you are, sweetie. Magna's just having his fun. He was the new recruit before you guys, you see. The little virgin delinquent is just excited that he finally has juniors too." Vanessa explained.
Luck, who was beside her, agreed with a giggle, "Silly, Magna!"
At this, Letheia blinked in amusement before bringing her attention back to Asta's "initiation".
"Hey, hick from Hage!" Magna called and raised a black robe with the Black Bulls insignia on it for Asta to see. "If you want one of these robes, get through this trial I'm about to give you."
"Got it!" Asta exclaimed in determination.
"First, show me how much guts and stamina you have! Five thousand sit-ups!"
From this point on, Letheia was shown an impressive show of endurance, strength, and stamina from Asta's part. She was honestly nervous for herself. Does she have to do this too?
"Five thousand push-ups!"
Asta even went as far as lifting a boulder and trying to break it with his head after that. And for some unknown reason that Letheia couldn't fathom, he even managed to actually make cracks appear on the boulder without cracking his own head in the process.
"That kid's not bad, though this is pointless." Vanessa commented at one point.
"Not that it matters since magic is everything in this world, but he has a crazy amount of energy." Luck added his own bit.
Letheia remembered what Captain Yami had said earlier about Asta not having magic and she suddenly felt sympathetic towards her fellow newcomer. Maybe that's why he was so fit and physically able. He probably had to train hard so he wouldn't be less able than those who had magic - which was practically everyone.
It was true after all. Magic was everything in this world. And as much as she hated the system, those who were stronger naturally always had more power.
"How's that!?" Asta asked, breathing heavily after his last task.
Magna smirked, "I guess you have some guts." He remarked.
"Did I convince you?" Asta asked eagerly. "Can I have my robe now?"
"Not yet!" Magna immediately shot down. "You're a hick from the boonies! It's not gonna be that easy! There's one more. The final trial in the initiation!"
Letheia briefly wondered what that could be but she quickly guessed that it was going to be somewhat like a battle. Magic Knights were famous for their skills in combat after all. Now, Letheia was just wondering and eager to know how Asta was going to counter a mage, but then she remembered how Asta was easily able to defeat his partner in the last test of the entrance exam.
'How did he do that, anyway? If he didn't have any magic, then what was that huge sword she saw earlier. Even more, didn't the guy own a grimoire?' Letheia thought, confused.
"You can use magic or whatever else you want..." Magna started as he flipped open his grimoire and summoned a fireball. "To either block or dodge my attack magic!"
Letheia leaned forward in her seat in silent anticipation, extremely curious on how Asta's magic - or was it not‐magic..? Gah, whatever - worked. She was also quite fascinated with her senior's magic.
