SITTING IN HER GEOGRAPHY CLASS Maddison had been called out to attend a meeting with the guidance counsellor.
As she made her way down the hallway towards Miss Pillsbury's office,Maddison wondered what the meeting could be about, It's not like her grades were below average or anything, in fact, they were probably amongst the highest in her year. It definitely wasn't for bad behaviour,Maddison kept to herself, she had never gotten into bother with anyone before, teachers or students.
As she approached the closed office door, she let out a breath. As the door opened she was greeted by Miss Pillsbury.
"Hi!" Her high pitched voice and overly cheerful attitude made Maddison fell slightly more relaxed, until she entered the room to see both her parents sitting inside, her stomach tightened as she anxiously made her way to the chair next to her father.
"Okay."Miss Pillsbury smiled, sensing the tension in the room, "so,you're parents called this meeting to discuss your plans for after graduation." Maddison didn't really understand what the hurry was,she wasn't even halfway through her sophomore year, why did she need to discuss post graduation right this moment, but that's her parents for you.
"She is planning on going to Stanford."her mother tells her, speaking up before Maddison could even open her mouth,"There should be a application on her school file."She glared over at Maddison to say, 'why haven't you done what you were told.'
The truth was,Maddison never did want to go to Stanford,it was her parents wishes,Maddison had her eyes set on New York but she knew if she told her parents that, they would never approve."I have just went over it now,and everything looks pretty much perfect, A 4.0 GPA, perfect attendance, no detentions."Miss Pillsbury read out,Maddison took pride in her success but she didn't like to show it, "but there is one problem."
Maddison fidgeted uncomfortably, not looking to her parents as she could feel their eyes on her."What would that be?"Madison's voice came out hoarse as she felt her stomach tighten even more,to the point she could throw up.
"Well it seems that you have no extracurricular activities or clubs that you attend."
"I don't do any,I don't really have the time."Maddison thought of an excuse to why she didn't do any clubs, the real reason was she was just a anti social teenager, she would much rather sit on her own then be in company of others.
"I know, but one of the requirements to submit your application is that you need to have at least one extracurricular activity,I'm sure if you look on the schools website you could find one or two clubs that are looking to take people in."
"I know but."-Maddison got cut off by her father, "We will make sure to have a look on the schools website tonight, and Maddison will get back to you tomorrow,Thank you for your time."
As they stood out in the hall,Maddison didn't say a word to her parents, she could tell somehow they thought this was her fault.

Maddison knew that it would be a issue trying to find a club that would take someone in so far into the year, she only could think of two clubs that is guaranteed to have spaces left, the chess club and the glee club...
She might have been smart but she definitely wasn't a chess player,The other option was the new directions, her schools new and 'improved' glee club, She didn't hate the glee club like the rest of the student body seemed to,although she did have to witness their god-awful rendition of
"Push It" by Salt-n-Pepa at an assembly once. She was conflicted between them, she knew what her parents would want her to join, they would tell her to go with the chess club but she didn't want to do it for her parents, they are already choosing her future, should she not at least get a say in what club she joins?
As they sat at the dinner table,no one saying a word,Maddison thought she should tell her parents about her options.
"I looked at the website,I have two options."she cleared her throat.
"Which are?"her dad asked, not looking up from his plate.
"The chess club and the glee club."
"Well obviously you are going with the chess club."he told her.
"Should I not get a say,I mean it's me who has to attend the club."is what Maddison wanted to say,but she didn't instead she just slightly smiled looking back at her plate.
"You weren't thinking on choosing the glee club where you?"It was more of a statement than a question.
"Well, kind of,I would rather that then chess."she anxiously told them.
"What good would glee club do you,Chess is a skill, singing and dancing won't get you anywhere."Factually her mother was wrong, either one of the clubs would help her into college, hence the reason she even had to look at joining one.
"I took piano lessons as a kid, that's a skill isn't it?I'm sure they use that in the glee club."she sharply told them.
Shocked at their daughters response, they looked up from their plates,Maddison didn't think what she said was bad, because it wasn't but like always they liked to over react.
"Fine."her mother look her in the eye, causing Maddison to break eye contact, "if you want to join the glee club,go ahead but it's your future you are putting at stake."
So Maddison's decision was final, she was going to talk to her Spanish teacher in hope she could join. She didn't see it at "putting her future at stake"because she wasn't,the whole reason she was joining it was in order to get into college, which was her parents wishes.
