winter , two
— THERE IS NO TRUST BETWEEN THEM, JUST A COMMON GOAL. Kai Parker understood that it could be hard to trust someone. That he could be hard to trust. His ability had made it hard on his family, as his father constantly told him, and so people like Josette, his sweet Jo, never knew if his touch was going to be meek or malicious.
And then the merger happened, and everything after was a whirlwind of emotions both figuratively and literally. People didn't trust him - that was understandable. Obstacles from his childhood and eighteen years in isolation had made him a bit brass on the friendliness front, he had back stabbed Bonnie multiple times, again, both figuratively and literally. But this newfound emotion was different.
He'd had emotions before, but years of Joshua's constant eye and running commentary had made Kai put up thick walls and shove everything down and away until he finally snapped. The merger brought one new thing : guilt.
Guilt had made him lonely and the loneliness had made him seek out friendships with people he thought he could trust like Bonnie, but that only resulted in a literally and figurative backstabbing. He was hard to trust.
It's unsurprising when Mikhail burst through the front door, brow furrowed in anger and a hard glare, and bed hair that ruffled in all directions that Kai had only really seen in movies or porn, and frantically looking for him while Kai stood in plain sight poorly chopping wood.
Mikhail huffed, breath visible in the harsh winter air, and dropped his shoulders in relief as he headed over to Kai. His clothes are creased from sleep and his laces on his boots are barely tied. It looked unbecoming of him.
Mikhail snatched the axe from his hands and screwed up his face as he started talking in a tongue Kai didn't recognise. He waved his hands about, gesturing to the piles of wood around them on the ground and flailing around in a rather cartoonish behaviour. Kai tried hard to not give in and smile.
Mikhail stopped and looked at Kai expectantly, as if the boy was able to understand every word of Russian that left his mouth, and waited for his answer.
"Thought I'd chop some wood. Felt very manly doing so if I might add. Get why you wanted to do it yesterday after that ass kicking." Kai smirked, impressed with his work.
"Okay fine, my ass kicking," he admitted when Mikhail stood there, silent and unimpressed. "I just felt like doing something this morning. Couldn't sleep but didn't have the energy to take a walk." He added. He knew Mikhail didn't trust him, just as he didn't trust Mikhail. But he wanted him to know he didn't leave, despite the vampires clear expectation.
Mikhail brushed past him, shaking his head as he lead the way to the tree line and Kai followed suit.
