Calamitous Intervention (Prologue)

What if, at the start of their journeys, Luz Noceda and Anne Boonchuy swapped places due to a rift created by the Calamity Box at the same time that the portal door was opened? Luz Noceda ends up in Amphibia, taken in by the Plantars, while Anne Boonchuy ends up in the Boiling Isles, taken in by the Owl Lady. This AU story covers all three seasons of both shows, on top of rewrites to some characters and plotlines.

Chapter One - Prologue

A robed figure leapt back with a grunt, performing a backflip in midair, and landed on the edge of a cliff, their feet digging into the ground. The female wore patterned white robes and a crooked white witch hat with a crown at the center.

Glaring up at the figure whose attack she had narrowly dodged, her blue eyes shone with determination, her braided green hair flowing down next to her shoulder. In her hands, she carried a white staff with a bulbous, blue gem on the end.

Above the figure towered a large, imposing creature of colossal proportions—a draconic, horned serpent with rippling black and purple scales. Its yellow eyes were locked onto the small witch as it wore a cruel smile on its wrinkled face. "Foolish child!" it taunted, its forked tongue flicking out. "I could swallow you whole!"

The witch straightened, her defiant and fearless gaze locking onto the snake. "Do not underestimate me, Gildersnake, for I am the Good Witch Azura, warrior of peace!" she declared with a dramatic pose and closed eyes. Suddenly, she dropped to one knee and brandished her staff like a rocket launcher, aiming at the serpent. "Now eat this, sucka!" she exclaimed.

The blue end of Azura's staff glowed a brilliant orange, and her body jolted from the force it fired. Fireballs shot out, each of them slamming into the Gildersnake one by one, and it cried out. "No! My only weakness! Dying!" it wailed, its face contorted in agony. Shortly after, it collapsed into the rocks below, causing the entire cave to shake.

"And that's the end!" a female voice concluded proudly, originating from a young, fourteen-year-old Dominican-American girl. She had tan skin, bright golden-brown eyes full of childlike innocence, and short, dark brown hair. She held a doll of the Good Witch Azura in one hand and a live green snake in the other. The girl's name was Luz Noceda.

"... The end of what?" her mother, a middle-aged woman with the same color eyes and hair as her daughter, along with red and black-framed glasses, replied. Her name was Camila, and while she loved Luz to death, she never really understood what went through her daughter's head sometimes.

"My book report," Luz clarified as if it were obvious, failing to read the room. In her hand, the live snake unhinged its jaw and bit down on the Azura doll's head, though she didn't flinch. "I think I knocked it out of the park."

Principal Hal, an older dark-skinned male with a graying mustache and hair, let out a small sigh as he rubbed his temples. "Your book report is why you're in here!" he reminded Luz firmly as he gestured to the office door behind them. Behind it, they could see the terrified students running through the hall with snakes thoughtlessly biting down on their hair.

Rather than acting perturbed at what had happened, Luz turned back toward the two adults with a smile, oblivious to the chaos she had caused. "Oh, so that's where the backup snakes were," she mused.

"And what were you going to do with this?" Camila asked worriedly as she picked up a bundle of fireworks loosely bound together with synthetic plastic rope. The last thing she needed was for her daughter to start a fire in the school building.

Frowning, Luz's smile faded, dropping her gaze with slight shame at her mother's expression. "That was for the act three closer..." she admitted. Okay, maybe the fireworks were a bit too far, but she couldn't help herself!
