SCARLETT SAT ON THE COUCH IN THE RV. She had Judith asleep on her chest while Carl sat next to her, checking the ammo in his gun. She watched the trees pass them as Abraham drove. Her heart was beating fast as her nerves spiked. She was worried that this was not going to work out for them.
She needed it to work out for them.
"I see a shit ton of walkers ahead," Abraham told them. "Thinkin' we should go around."
"They aren't stopping," Rosita added. "Do we?"
They all turned to look at Scarlett. She gave Judith to Carl, standing and walking over to the front. Maggie waited for Scarlett to make a decision.
"Slow down," she murmured. Abraham did so, and they watched the car in front begin to go through the small herd. "Shit. We go around. Catch them on the other side. Can't risk the RV getting full of walker guts."
"Leave them?" Maggie asked worriedly.
"We ain't leavin' them," Daryl commented. "We're goin' 'round like she said. Find them on the other side of it. Go."
Abraham reversed the RV, getting it to change back South. Scarlett stayed in the front, eyes peeled for anything. She bit her lip as her foot tapped worriedly.
"They're all right," Abraham muttered.
"I know," she replied, squeezing his shoulder. She was about to say something else when they saw a flare go off in the direction they were heading. "There! Could be them!"
Abraham grumbled out, "Hold on!" and he sped up the RV. Scarlett held onto Abraham as he drove toward the flare's light. They kept going until they reached a building. It had a lot of cars surrounding it, and there were walkers going in as well.
A cry of pain had Scarlett opening the RV door before he had even parked the damn thing. She rushed out, pulling out her machete and stabbing the first walker she saw.
"SCARLETT!" Abraham yelled, putting the thing in park as the others rushed out of the RV.
Scarlett kept going, slicing into another walker's head just as one snuck up on her. She turned, watching a bolt fly through its head. She nodded at Daryl from afar.
Rushing inside the building, she saw a man laying on the ground, pushing a walker away with his foot. Scarlett walked forward, pulling the walker off of the man, taking her machete, and putting it straight through its head.
"Hi," the man breathed out. "Thanks."
"No problem," she sniffed, wiping at her face. She smeared the blood a bit.
The man stared at her, eyes going to her stomach. "You must be Scarlett Grimes. I'm Eric. Aaron and I have been watching your group for some time—"
"Damn it," Scarlett murmured. "He really was telling the truth."
