*Short Chapter*

It was the next day already. I don't know what is about to happen with my family. I am currently in an upstairs part of the conjoined school that is reserved for the highschoolers. I was sitting in one of the abandoned math classrooms eating lunch. I was eating left over peking duck with rice and a small fruit salad. I was looking over the gym yard that the middle school uses for outdoor activities, it seems that they are playing dodgeball.

"What fun." I said, shoving some duck and rice into my mouth with chopsticks. During mid chew I hear the door open. I turn around to see Devon. I swallowed what I was eating.

"Hey." I spoke first.

"Heya." He responded. "Whatcha doing up here?"

"I just needed some space from everyone."

"Makes sense. I wanted to check on ya." He spoke.

"Why?" I questioned.

"Hey, we all go through rough days." I snickered.

"I am fine. Don't worry." I replied.

"Yeah, but doesn't it get tiring?" He questioned.

"What do you mean?"

"You're always running around doing something." Devon said. "It's cute."

I froze... so did he. 'cute'

"Cute?" I repeated.

"Yeah, I did say that." He, I think, was stunned with fear.

"So I'm not cute?" I teased.

"NO! I didn't mean it like that! You are cute but, like-like" He rambled.

"Don't worry." I laughed, "It's fine."

"Really." He relaxed.

"Yeah... I think your cute to." I blushed. slightly... SLIGHTLY. "So. Why did you really come up here?"

"You have seemed freaked out the past few days." He answered. " Your volleyball team is kind of worried about you."

"You went to my team?" I spoke.

"Yeah." The answer came out rather quickly. "You just seem off. Like your hand isn't the first to up anymore in class or you aren't the one shouting the rights and wrongs of whatever debate we're doing in Ap Government."

"You noticed all of that." I was stunned. I have never had anyone look so deeply into what I do.

"Well, it was just observation." He coughed. There was red on his cheeks. " I just want you to be okay."

"Thanks Devon." I smiled. 'he is really sweet.'

"So." He started and quickly changed the topic to something else. "What are you eating?" Looking down at my Tuper wear box.

"It's peking duck." I answered. Smiled at the motion of showing off my food.

"What is it?" He asked, then quickly recovered. " I mean, like, how do you make it?"

"You know... I'm not too sure." I giggled. "I never really thought to watch my dad when he cooks."

"Your dad cooks?" He sounded surprised.

"Doesn't yours?" I questioned.

"No, even before they split my mom does all the cooking." He said.

"Is she good?" I asked.

"I think she is, but probably not as good as your dad." He spoke.

"Oh, give the woman some credit." I nudged. "She's not here to defend herself."

"Hey, I never said she was bad." He laughed. Once he stopped laughing, "So are you going to the 4-town concert?"

"I don't know." I spoke. " My sister, Meilin, wants to go more than anything. My parents said no though."

"Well, I wasn't asking about your sister, I was asking about you." He motioned.

"Oh, uhh, I haven't put too much thought into it. It'd be cool." I spoke.

"Well...um... I have an extra ticket. " Devon said pulling out two pink 4-town tickets. "And you were the first person I thought of to take." He was really nervous. Sweat was beading at his brow. His hand still rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly a waiting my response. 'MeiMei would be sad if she knew I was going, but... the is no harm in not telling her.'

"I would love to Devon. " I answered with a smile. He smiled back.

"It's a date." He said confidently. I was shocked. I asked a few guys out but I hardly get a guy to ask me.

"Yeah, it's a date." I smiled. We stared at each other for a moment. Till we heard a window crash outside. We both go to the window to see a busted window and my sister being dragged off by her friends.

"Should you go down there." Devon said. Us both stilling looking down.

"No, I'm on lunch break."

We stared in shock for a few seconds longer then continued on with where we left off.

"So, where were we." I said.

"Well..." Devon started. And that's what we did for the rest of the lunch break. Talking and listening, it was great.
