"I'll be fine Dad, please can I go," your Dad did not like you doing things with his players after he let you join him on his coaching trip. You had been at every game with your Mom and watched every practice from the bench. Your Dad wouldn't let you play hockey no matter how much you wanted he didn't want his daughter getting hurt, but he still kept you involved in the game. After he had taken the coaching job for the under-18 USA development team you were begging him to let you go with him, he eventually caved but gave you the warning to stay away from his team. That didn't turn out well because after he had introduced you to the team they welcomed you, you would sneak out of where you were staying to meet up with the team, but especially one more than the others, Jack Hughes. From the moment you laid eyes on him you were swooning, you were meeting up with him, Cole Caufield, and Trevor Zegras most nights, but one night they didn't show, it was just you and Jack. That night he asked you to be his girlfriend after sneaking out to see him for the past month. You were so happy that night until your Dad caught you sneaking back in. He had punished you by not allowing you to go to the last practice where you learned your lesson, but your Dad noticed something was off with his players without you there on the bench being supportive. The boys were not in the right mood as preseason was starting in the next two weeks. Jack had been texting you every night that week, wanting to meet up, you couldn't stand not seeing him even if you kept your relationship a secret. You finally had to ask.
"Who's going to be there?" He questioned you.
"Just Jack, Trev, and Cole, we are just going to play some video games," you pleaded.
"I don't know about this," he crossed his arms, but your Mom chimed in.
"She's learned her lesson," she winked at you.
"I'm sorry Dad, I'm sorry for sneaking out, I won't do it again, but can you blame me, you banned me from hanging out with the people I'm spending the next few months with, please Dad I'm sorry." You could feel your eyes beginning to water, you loved these boys you had become so close with so quickly.
"Fine. I want you back by 11, if not I'm coming to get you," you rolled your eyes and grabbed your jacket as you walked out the door.
You knocked on the door of where the boys were staying,
"It's me," you called out pounding again, "Hello?" Jack opened the door and grabbed you picking you up in a hug.
"I missed you" he exclaimed while closing the door behind you with his hip,
"I missed you too Jack," you said ruffling his hair. He put you down letting you walk to the couch on your own where Trevor and Cole were waiting with controllers. Trevor passed you one,
"Well, well, well, Y/N, is it rematch time?" Cole teased as you sat next to him.
"Don't you remember I won last time?" You teased him back. Jack settled in next to you,
"Don't let him get in your head Y/N," he whispered in your ear,
"I won't, besides I think he's a little scared." You giggled as you picked your team. You and Cole played your game and it wasn't even close, you were beating him 6-0 by the end of the second period. After each goal you scored on him, Jack squeezed your shoulders in excitement. You had beat Cole 7-2 and decided your thumbs needed a break from playing, he was salty about the loss and wanted to keep playing. You passed your controller back to Trevor.
"He's all yours Trev," you smiled.
"This should be easy," he smiled back. You and Jack watched the two play as you rested your head on his shoulder. You had lost track of time with the boys and found yourself dozing off to sleep while Jack and Trevor were playing with each other. You hadn't looked at the time before you had fallen asleep and forgotten about your Dad's rule. Jack had tried to wake you when your phone was buzzing like crazy on his lap, but you told him to stop in your sleepy state. You got more comfortable and wrapped your arms around him while Trevor draped a blanket over the two of you. The boys had put on a movie and you were sleeping peacefully on Jack's chest. You didn't know how much time had passed, but you woke up to a familiar voice yelling, your Dad's. Your eyes snapped open and met your Dad's he was furious.
"This is what you have been doing?! You've been sneaking off to date one of my players, I knew I had reason to forbid you." He scolded you.
"Coach if I may-"
"Stay out of this Hughes," he cut Jack off. He looked upset and scared along with Trevor and Cole.
"Dad, let me explain-" you couldn't get the words out, you were afraid of what would happen to the future of you and Jack. Your Dad grabbed your hand and pulled you up off the couch and dragged you out of their place. You looked at Jack through your teary eyes as you were leaving, he blew you a kiss, while Trevor and Cole waved goodbye. Your Dad slammed the door behind the two of you as you both walked toward his car.
"What did you do with him?" He was serious, very serious, glaring at you.
"Nothing..."
"Don't lie to me." He shouted.
"Okay... we've been dating for the past week, and he treats me well, you have no reason to be mad at him, only me, but please let me keep seeing him and the rest of the boys," you wiped the tear from under your eye.
"Why should I after you kept this from me?" You were reminded of what Jack had told you about the last practice and how distracted everyone was without having you at the bench.
"I know they missed me at practice Dad, I know you were frustrated with their lack of effort and focus, please Dad, they need me as much as I need them. They make me happy, especially Jack, I love him he would never hurt me you should trust him as I do." You were crying.
"Hughes is a good player, I do trust him, honey, you're growing up I feel like I'm losing you, I just wish you didn't lie to me, all you had to do was ask the first time and I could have said yes," he shrugged pulling you in for a hug.
"I was scared Dad, that's all, you always have these strict rules I would have been bored if I didn't break one," you nervously laughed.
"I guess I have been a little strict, I'm sorry Y/N," he apologized. Jack noticed that you and your Dad were still outside in the car, he had made his way out and you hadn't even noticed him come outside.
"It's okay I forgive you, and I know you'll forgive me."
"I do, and I think someone is waiting for you," he pointed out the window behind you. You turn around to see Jack standing outside with his hands in his pockets looking down.
"So you'll give us a chance?"
"I will." You squeal with joy and place a kiss on your Dad's cheek, then rush out of the car. Jack stood there with open arms while you ran towards him.
"He said yes?" he held you.
"He said yes." He quickly pressed his lips into yours while spinning you around. He glanced at the car with your Dad nodding in the front seat, pulling out and leaving you with Jack.
"Let's go back inside, you'll be okay here," he smiled.
"There's nowhere else I would rather be than here with you right now." You pressed another kiss to his lips as he carried you inside.
