Homura gawked at himself in the mirror, his tie taut and his hair slicked back in a half up-half down hair do.
He wanted to look more professional now that he had secured an actual job, and he wanted to impress Makima, even if his infatuation with her wasn't as strong as before.
Praise. Perhaps...that is what he yearned for?
He waved away the thought, exiting his bathroom to grab his bag and leave.
"Does it really bring you joy when you see Makima? Are you sure it isn't just the close proximity?" The hunter cannot tell whether this is genuine concern or a feigned emotion.
Homura ignores the devil, treating it as if it was just a gust of wind. He takes a deep breath, preparing himself for the day ahead.
—
The air was incredibly humid today, not a huge surprise for Japan's citizens. So even then, the civilians surrounding went about their usual routines. Some would shop, some going out to eat, and others hanging out with friends or family.
Homura admired them, the way they were so carefree... maybe after he kills the gun devil he'll live like that!
But perhaps in a different city entirely... he'd rather not deal with the horrific prices.
Fortunately, it didn't take long for Homura to reach his destination
He knocks, and again feels a heavy gaze on him once he enters Makima's office.
"I have the paperwork, Ms. Makima. Please let me know if you have any missions for me" The man barked, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
The redhead grinned softly, acknowledging the documents placed on her desk.
"As a matter of fact, Kopoyagi, I have a very important errand for you."
Homura perked up
"I'd like you to investigate reports of missing persons in Okinawa. It shouldn't take too long, I'll have Madoka come along with you"
Who?
An obvious frown formed on his face.
(Haha get it like those two characters that I hate with my whole being because uhhh yeah i didn't even mean to make that reference but anyways.)
"Don't worry, he's experienced, I'll give you his file, if you really feel that he isn't the right fit for you"
Homura shook his head, if he wanted to keep this job and his life, he should gain wisdom from someone who knows their way around the job.
"It's fine, Ms. Makima, I'm quite flexible." He claims with a smirk
"What a cur." The devil of flames quipped.

Now that he's on the bullet train to Kagoshima with his temporary partner, he realizes that Okinawa is pretty far away... Wouldn't they have their own devil-hunting sector???
Perhaps they're low on members
Madoka cleared his throat, catching Homura's attention. "You're new, yes?"
The other hunter nodded slowly, feeling it was already obvious.
"I'm Madoka, it's nice to see that they still have people joining despite how dangerous things have gotten. We could use those extra hands!"
Homura smiled, he was thankful not all devil hunters had sticks up their asses.
"Homura, and yeah... No use lazing around when I could help prevent incidents such as the one we're headed to now."
The two enjoyed a bit of small talk as the train reached its destination.
—
"Finally... Okinawa! That Ferry was too long and too wet." The fire devil sighed happily.
Madoka and Homura stopped at an inn, visiting the bar and eating a good fill of beer, parfaits, and dumpling trays.
"I'm beat... and we haven't even done any work yet." Homura complained, seeing that Madoka still had quite a bit of energy.
"Definitely, but we should get some rest now, so that way we have strength when taking on whatever made those people disappear."
Homura observed how dedicated and knowledgeable Madoka was. He's rational and cautious yet confident in his work, plus, he knows his limits!
That was admirable, as far as Homura could tell.
(.......uhm I didn't realize how little content madoka had so forgive me guhh....)

Eventually, the two devil hunters had tracked down the origin of what was causing the population of the city to decrease.
A goat devil... how peculiar.
A crooked stature, humongous horns, judgmental eyes... and not to mention a rotund stomach, probably where the missing people went.
Madoka signaled to the other male, letting the rookie take the lead.
Homura called upon the fire devil, asking it lend its power.
The flame creature didn't quite understand how this was supposed to kill the gun devil, but complied nonetheless.
Homura winced as he was engulfed in flames, only stinging for a moment as his felt his consciousness slip from him, as if he was being pushed to the back row of movie theater.
After that, his memory was a blur, seeing the ashes of the goat devil, a couple survivors of the goat devil, and a shocked Madoka.
"What... what happened?"
