He was alone. He didn't know what to do. What was this blank space that was completely white? Far away, something, or someone, was walking toward him. Yes, it looked like a person in T-shirt and sweatpants. What should he say? What should he do?
"Hello!" the stranger called. "Who are you?"
For some unknown reason, our friend couldn't understand him.
"Just a moment," Bob said, for his name was Bob.
He fumbled in his pockets and pulled out a translator. Perfect! Bob thought. He pushed a button, and it was on!
"Could you repeat that, please?" Bob asked.
"Yeah. Hello, who are you?" the stranger replied.
"My name is Bob. Who are you?"
It took a second to register. The stranger suddenly noticed the translator in Bob's hand. He shook his head and said:
"My name is Park Jimin, from South Korea," then he added. "Is that why your translator is on?"
Bob felt slightly embarrassed he hadn't put the translator back in his pocket. He nodded and stood there, silent. Finally, Jimin spoke.
"So! Do you know your way around? I just suddenly ended up here," Jimin explained.
"No, I don't. I only just arrived."
Both stood in silence and considered what to do next. How where they supposed to get out? Could they trust each other?
"Um, do you think there are more people scattered around here?" Bob wondered aloud.
"I don't know; should we look?" Jimin suggested.
Bob thought for a minute.
"Probably. Just don't go too far. We don't want to get lost," Bob answered.
"Right."
So off they went. Every so often, Jimin and Bob looked to make sure they could both see each other. After an hour of searching, they took a break and sat down.
"Are you ok?"
An unfamiliar voice broke the silence. Bob and Jimin jumped up in surprise.
"Who are you?" Jimin inquired.
"Um, are you Asian?" he asked.
"What do you think?" Jimin muttered.
"Well, anyway, my name is Fear!" Fear said.
Jimin and Bob caught each other's eye. This guy did not seem like his name was Fear.
"Nice to meet you, Fear," Bob said politely. "My name is Bob, and this is Jimin."
The three started talking about the how they might have gotten to the vast, white space and other various things.
"Before you showed up, we had been looking for more people around here," Bob explained.
"And that's how I found you. I saw someone walking and followed them," Fear said.
Suddenly, a call for help rang throughout the area. Bob, Jimin, and Fear stood up and looked around. After a silent agreement, all three ran in the direction of the sound. After running for what seemed like hours (it was actually ten minutes), they found someone.
"Oh, hello," she said.
"Um, hello, my name is Park Jimin," Jimin said. "And you are?"
The girl thought for a moment.
"Beluga."
"Beluga?" Bob wondered aloud.
"Beluga. It's a good cat name," Beluga said matter-a-factly.
They all stared at each other. It had been at least three hours of strangeness for everyone. One at a time, Bob and Fear introduced themselves. Beluga nodded and said, "Nice to meet you!". This is very strange. How did we all get here? Fear thought.
"Do any of you remember how you appeared here?" Fear asked.
"All I remember is that I was sleeping and then I was here," Beluga said.
A bang sounded about thirty yards away. Everyone spun around to see what it was. And there, as they stared, was yet another unfortunate person.
"Hey! Ciao! Hola!" he said. "Would you like some help?"
Everyone sighed with relief. This guy seemed just fine. He walked toward them as though they were his best friends.
"My name is, well, Help," he said.
