Te'rani connected to the tree of souls. The entire area was empty when she arrived. She was alone, it was calming. Just her and Eywa.
She closed her eyes as she began to see something new in her mind.
A memory. Of when she was much younger, swimming with her Tulkun spirit brother, Mao.
Mao supported her in a time when even her parents wouldn't.
In Na'vi culture, love is love, caring for the same gender or the opposite, it didn't matter.
Though, some families were still opposed to it, even though Eywa herself wasn't.
One of those families were Te'rani's. Her parents loved her and she loved them, but they never approved of how she felt about women.
Mao was there for her when she needed comfort and reassurance.
Mao was her best friend. They shared deep secrets and endearing memories.
The particular memory which she saw now, was of her first swim with him after bonding with him and seeing his memories.
She glided while holding onto his fin in the water.
She could hear Mao's loud and content squeaks.
Te'rani had a wide smile on her face as she swam with her spirit brother.
She was fourteen when she first bonded with the tulkun. Since then, every time tulkun would come to their reef, she would fondly welcome him.
Mao happened to be the Tulkun that was mated with Roa, Ronal's spirit sister. It was a happy coincidence.
Te'rani smiled at the memory.
As she swam on Mao, she looked around.
There was another Tulkun far to their side.
Te'rani squinted her eyes. This wasn't a memory anymore. She'd never seen it before.
Te'rani let go of Mao and swam closer towards the other tulkun.
As she got closer, she noticed it had a missing fin.
Her eyes widened. Payakan. Instinctively, and due to shock she paused and didn't swim closer.
Te'rani's parents had died years ago, protecting Tulkun from sky people. People would often say that Payakan killed them.
Te'rani however, never believed it. She always blamed the sky people for their death.
As a child, Te'rani often had strange dreams that showed far away futures.
Once, She saw her parent's deaths. But it wasn't Payakan who killed them, it was the sky people's weapons.
Te'rani was never sure if her dream was true, but she ended up believing that it was since then.
She swam closer to Payakan, who stopped swimming and just hovered in the water.
It looked like a dream. It was, but it felt trippy. Felt like Eywa was showing her this.
Te'rani noticed a young na'vi on the other side of his fin.
It was a boy, but he was too blue to be a Metkayina Na'vi.
He swam to the other side where Te'rani was, completely ignoring her presence and going to see Payakan's missing fin.
Te'rani recognized the boy. Neytiri's youngest son. Lo'ak. What was he doing with Payakan?
Te'rani swam a little closer and saw him sign "I'm sorry" to payakan after seeing the missing fin.
